changing video settings

    I had a friend send me a video made from a digital camera.
    I have recieved it in an email.
    however no matter what I do I cant get it to play. I have changed the extentions from .avi to .mov and .wmv and .mp3 and .mp4 and to mpg and .mepg any other ideas what I might need to do get it to play..
    i have tried all extensions in QT. Wmedia player and in Realplayer changed properties from blocked to not blocked and its not read only either
    thanks for any help.
