CTDTS of Charlotte,NC is the best.
No slamming and jamming with there program. They are strict, yet understandably flexible. 4 week or 9 wknds or both.
Family owned since 1971. They really take the time with their students. Job placement is top priority. Many companies came in to recruit students from my class, we had job offers before we graduated!
They referred me to the local Employment Security Commission (ESC) to apply for funding $ for training the WIA
Program,Workforce Investment Act. This pgm offers CDL as well as other great career opportunities. To qualify you can either be unemployed or" under employed". Depending on your family size and income. Which surprised me, their scale is set high. Approx a family of 3 # $56,000 yr < is considered under employed. The whole process takes about 3-4 wks to get qualified for training.
I was able to attend CTDTS for free, the school helped me by getting my case worker # the ESC to reimburse me for fuel for traveling to classes. They also got my Hazmat endorsement added to the pkg. I live in South Carolina W/I 35 mi of this school. I have met students that are put in housing if needed. They use a nice high end location # University Place, w/ all the trimmings for 35.00$ per night. This to can be added to the WIA funding program if needed.
For Private Pay students the course is approx 5,250. $ +/-, which includes 4 weeks housing.
If you" aren't from around here" then try to contact your local ESC to see what programs are available to help you with funding for training. They work with the local colleges and their programs as well.
All the best!

So who are you driving for , your recommended carrier , Howard Transportation ? I see their ISS-D recommends INSPECT at every scale
http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SafeStat/CarrierOverview.asp?DOT=89586
You also recommend Coastal Transportation of GA . Safer only shows them having 2 power units . -
I prefer the security of local vendors/distributors. They offer base pay + commission. Home every night. Excellent benefits, insurance... Less likely to lay off. They will take new grads as well.
Some examples are Pepsi, Budweiser etc... If you are lucky enough to get accepted. They have online job openings. They are slim. I kept my eye on the prize and my persistence prevailed. Thank God. But, I am a single parent, this works for me. OTR is hard for anyone, especially w/ children. Plus traveling solo as a female was intimidating for me. I literally lived out of my truck, "stealth like".
Under the Radar in SC.
All the best!

i dont get that they just gave you a hazmat endorsement #### here up north you gottta take a test pass with 80 or better then go thru rigourous background checks nc just givin away cdls thats nuts
-
They don't give them away.
You still have to take the test and have the finger printing and background complete.
I was just stating that the school and my case worker, thru the WIA program, included this extra expense in my grant money, as a package deal.
So it cost me nothing extra to get my HazMat endorsement, except work and effort on my part.
