I was trying to check the swr on the connex 4300 radio I put in my sons Pete, but have not had good results. I bought the radio with a set of Wilson Antennas that came off another persons truck. I couldnt find my old swr meter I had about 20 years ago, so I bought this one off of ebay..... Hooked it up as per instructions, but when I keyed the mic and tried to adjust the knob to full swing on scale, it would go to about 2 then into the red. Apparantly very sensitive control knob, as it never did act correctly. When I would switch it to reverse, and then key the mic, it would peak the meter everytime. I put a brand new dual coax cable in the truck with the antennas that came with the radio, and I cannot believe it is off tune that much! I tried the meter on another truck with have with a single antenna, and had same results. Peaked the meter on it when keying the mic. So, either I have shorts in both my antennas, or both radios are bad, or the meter is not very good. Any ideas?
thanks,

Are you sure the SWR meter is hooked up correctly? Are you checking both antennas at once? They have to be checked individually, then check again after co-phased. If everything is hooked up correctly it sounds like something is causing the antennas to reflect really bad or having a ground issue. Double check that everything is hooked up correctly and try the antennas on perch mounts. Good luck

I think I might try to find another meter.

I did, sent it back, waiting on a replacement.
