China officially ended its one-child policy on January 1, 2016, with the signing into law of a bill allowing all married couples to have a second child as it attempted to cope with an ageing population and shrinking workforce.

Couples want girl babies now. Boys when they reach marriage are expected to buy a home before marriage. Many/most women won't marry a guy that doesn't own a home.
Girl babies don't face that problem when they reach marriage age.

In China, the legal age for marriage is 22 for men and 20 for women but there's no specific penalty for breaching the law, according to Jiang Quanbao, a professor from Xi'an Jiaotong University.

 

Young women in China are high earners also. They're in demand in the financial sector such as banking and stock management.
