That type of data base is very misleading. It's leaving a lot of data out in order to portray their given agendas in the best light. For example, no one in their right mind would consider me a real farmer, but because I put a handful of cows on my land I pay almost nothing in property taxes. So while not technically a 'subsidy' it saves me over 8k a year in taxes, so it's effectively the same thing as the state handing me an 8k dollar check.

No, it’s actually pretty straightforward as to what kind of subsidy (disaster, crop, or land conservation) and how much was paid out. This isn’t tax break for a few head of cattle stuff.

Maybe it's different where you are, I don't know, but I do know this.

First off, one needs to recognize the big difference between a family farm LLC and a "corporate farm." I use that term loosely because a "corporate farm" is not really a traditional farm, not in my eyes anyway. It's like comparing an O/O to Swifty.

Secondly, how it works where we live and farm is this:
We have to generate and prove at least $10k in sales per year, for at least two years, in order to file and get an Ag exemption (roughly 10-30%, it depends on circumstance) on our property taxes, no where close to "paying nothing on property tax", as you're saying. Also, there is a clause in there that prohibits us from selling the property for at least 5 years after ceasing to claim the Ag exemption, or one must pay back all that tax that was exempted. Additionally, school taxes are not included.

Depending on where you live in the State, and what land prices are worth, dictates what one pays in land taxes. Trucking, like farming, is a lot of hard work for relatively little return, but I wouldn't have it any other way, as I love the independence.

But the fact is this, most modern youth doesn't want to work that hard anymore for a paycheck, with most choosing not to farm as a living. Couple that with developers literally salivating to get a shot at buying up your land for dirt cheap, and States that no longer have any manufacturing tax base (thanks NAFTA), now view your land as a replacement to make up for the lost tax revenue .

Once that farm land has been sold off, it aint never coming back. The fact is the family farm, like O/O's, is going the way of the passenger pigeon, once here in huge numbers, hunted down, and exterminated.

Most people who bash farmers and think they've got it made, have obviously never done it....

I don't bash farmers. But just like owner operators, I get tired of hearing them whine. And it's always the same bs.
Truckers crying they can't make any money cause of thre megas and cheap brothers, but financed a brand new dually cause they 'need' it to run for parts even tho they net turn a wrench in their truck.
Farmers cry they can't make any money but finance two 4 new four wheelers and a new gator cause they 'need' it to check fence lines. Or my favorite of both truckers and farmers they finance a brand new tractor when they got a perfectly good one that's either paid for or nearly paid for.

But then on the other hand you got farmers and truckers that never whine about money problems and keep on doing their thing rolling with the punches when they have a bad year and banking the money when things are going well.

Just where in my post was I whining about anything? Actually, I was clarifying what you stated regarding farmers "paying almost nothing in property taxes," along with pointing out other facts that we have to deal with.

As far as what other people foolishly do or don't do, that's their business, I've got enough of my own to do....

I didn't say you were. I was responding to the part about people bashing farmers and my views on it.
