We certainly have a mess on the East coast with the current storm, but they are having quite a time across the pond as well ...

Eurostar are the passenger trains, but don't forget the Shuttle trains use the same tunnel and are being delayed. These are the ro-ro trains that tranport trucks across the Channel, so there must be lot of truckers stranded the wrong side of the Channel right now. Let's hope they make it home for Christmas!

I am a little bit late in replying to this one but it beats me how the weather up top can affect trains 1/2 mile under the channel. It is about 12 years since I went thru the chunnel but back in those days we would use it when the weather put the ferries off

The problem was not in the tunnel as such, it was the trains moving from "climate-controlled" tunnels out into snow and ice. The rapid change of temperature was something they could not deal with!
Buckaneer Thanks this. -
Spot on it was the entry on the French side where the problems were, the snow and unusually cold temperatures combined to cause havoc in the workings of the trains as the entered the tunnel.
Theyve now modified the air scoops / deflectors on some air inlet vent i think. Guess we wont know if theyre any good until the next bad weather in around 5-10 years.
