Thinking about making the big bux and becomin an otr truck driver. (For me, anything over $18,000.00 per year is the big bux). I'm single with no kids and thinking bout Movin back to cincinnati, ohio, which is where I am from originally. I know I'll get home more often then ft myers, fl. in Cincinnati.
Which brings me to the next question. What area of the country or city is the best place to live in as far as getting home time? I know some of yu might be saying if you are so concerned about gettting home then maybe you shouldn't consider otr driving. And I would agree with you. I haven't made up my mind yet, just kind of playing with the idea.
Cincinnati, ohio Will I get home often?

Cincinatti should be a great area because of 2 major north/south interstates (I-75 and I-71) and because I-70 runs east/west just north of it through Dayton. As I recall there are some fleets with terminals in Dayton on the east side of town on I-70, not recomending any of them as I can't remember who is actually there.

<shain head> big bux...............you'll do fine...................they look for labor like you, and untill
we gid rid of the likes of you, every other driver will pay too -
I am thinking if you are worried about home time you need to worry about getting into a different profession. On the great list of things home is on the least important side..

Like Celtic said! The reason they make the big bucks is because they don't go home. Drivers that take home time starve. Companies give the miles to the drivers that run hard. You are going to wind up wasting your time because if you aren't willing to run hard and stay out most companies will let you sit and rot at the truck stop. This makes your time away from home useless. Unless you are "gung ho" and willing to leave your home behind I wouldn't even consider it. Trucking school is expensive and so is getting started. Most new drivers just don't can't fathom the away from home thing until they are out there and then it is a shock! It is a very tough lifestyle.

Yea they are companies that could get you home every weekend and still pays good, But don't expect to get one of those until you put some worktime in !!! Truckings a hard life and most that are not raised in it don't last and i said most because some do !!! If your single that shouldn't be a problem for you . Most companies are atleast two weeks out two days off. Good luck with what ever you should do...
