    I agree fully that bump the dock, scope it out and if not needed high side it to the bunk until your loaded. And that is how I have been doing it no problems. But I went through one of those checks where they were apparently training newbies and according to the lead "instructor" (haha) I am supposed to show on duty not driving the entire time I am being loaded and NOT in the bunk regardless of where I am actually at BECAUSE they say you are supposed to be awake and in full control of your vehicle during this time. I see slightly a point to this but, come on SERIOUSLY?!!!!!...SOOOOO for me I will just keep on doing things the way I always have and since I haven't had any violations from it thus far.......OH WELL....:biggrin_25523:

    Let me ask you a few simple questions.

    While you are being loaded, are you "relieved from all responsibilities for the truck/load"?
    Are you "free to pursue activities of your choosing"?
    Are you expected to "remain in readiness to operate a CMV"?

    For example, while getting loaded, could you walk to the local bar and grill, eat a meal, maybe have a beer, or are you stuck at the shipper, waiting for them to finish loading so you can get on down the road as soon as they are done??

    Does that clear up this issue sufficiently?

    Maybe if you were paid hourly, FOR ALL ON DUTY TIME, you wouldn't feel the need to falsify your logbook.
    This is why pay per mile needs to be done away with!!! It encourages and rewards driver's for illegal behavior.

    "On duty time means all time from the time a driver begins to work or is required to be in readiness to work until the time the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work. On duty time shall include:
    (1) All time at a plant, terminal, facility, or other property of a motor carrier or shipper, or on any public property, waiting to be dispatched, unless the driver has been relieved from duty by the motor carrier;
    (2) All time inspecting, servicing, or conditioning any commercial motor vehicle at any time;
    (3) All driving time as defined in the term driving time;
    (4) All time, other than driving time, in or upon any commercial motor vehicle except time spent resting in a sleeper berth;
    (5) All time loading or unloading a commercial motor vehicle, supervising, or assisting in the loading or unloading, attending a commercial motor vehicle being loaded or unloaded, remaining in readiness to operate the commercial motor vehicle, or in giving or receiving receipts for shipments loaded or unloaded;
    (6) All time repairing, obtaining assistance, or remaining in attendance upon a disabled commercial motor vehicle;
    (7) All time spent providing a breath sample or urine specimen, including travel time to and from the collection site, in order to comply with the random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, or follow-up testing required by part 382 of this subchapter when directed by a motor carrier;
    (8) Performing any other work in the capacity, employ, or service of a motor carrier; and
    (9) Performing any compensated work for a person who is not a motor carrier.

    I log anywhere between 30 minutes and 2.5 hours or more.

    Flatbedding and tarping takes time. I know it, DOT knows it, company knows it. If I were to try and log 15 minutes for my every loading and unloading stop, I bet within a year I would be paying enough in fines to reduce the national tax burden by a hefty percentage!
