Class 8 electric trucks performing well, but incentives still required - Truck News
We have two of these exact trucks. Lucky if they can go 150 kms in ideal conditions. They're 10,000 lbs heavier than our regular Volvos. We only use them for shunting and a local pickup about 15 minutes away from our yard. And they cost over $500,000 each. That's a lot of money to virtue signal.

The battery tech just isn't there yet.
IMO electric Class 8 trucks will be nothing more than a pipe dream until they can get the battery packs down to the size and weight of a full 100 gal fuel tank and can run the truck all day on 2 of them at 100k lbs gross. Also need to have charging times down to something reasonable.
I could just imagine the BS involved if electric trucks were stranded on the Coq for 2 or 3 days in a storm (it's happened before). It wouldn't be a situation where they spend 10 minutes per truck, dropping 100L of fuel in each one, it'll be having to tow each and every one of those electric trucks out of there to get things moving again.broke down plumber and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
I don't think I'd be too comfy sleeping over those batteries every night.

I Remember seeing one of your companies Electric Volvo’s sitting in the dealership show room at steeles and tomken . They had a yellow Home Hardware electric volvo too . I always wonder how well the new electric trucks would do in the real world. i know Pride has had an electric Freightliner for atleast a year now . in my opinion a hybrid option would be a better choice.
