    Crete Trainee Compensation Package
"We offer our students $500/week while training, and when training concludes we also offer a higher rate of pay of either $.34 or $.35 per practical mile for your first year."

I posted the link for Swift.

I have a friend that recently went through their program, he confirmed that is what he was paid while on the truck.

I'm not trying to be critical of May Trucking per se, I'm just showing that $50 per day training pay is not the norm now. It was three years ago when these big companies were having to cut cost to remain viable. However, things have changed now in the marketplace and I've seen that more and more companies are increasing their pay on all all levels in order to entice new drivers.

I spoke about this with management at May when I worked there. I encouraged them to revisit their pay and benefits package. Things are changing in the marketplace for truckers (experienced and entry level) and my opinion is that they are lagging behind their competition in this area.

They have begun to adjust areas like the idling policy, however, on a whole they are still not up to the level of many of their peers.

One of the other things I've noticed is that in the past couple of years, companies were requiring one to two years experience for hire. Not now. I have a friend that just quit May after 5 mos experience, he was hired by a reputable company and received a .07 cpm increase!

In addition, "May's trainer" pay was anemic. They were only paying .02 cpm mile extra and a $300 bonus when the student solo(ed) out. For three weeks or more of training, that works out to about $20 per day extra for the trainer to have a student on his truck for like 24 hours per day :)

I have heard that they are changing the trainee pay scale. Maybe some of the trainers at May can confirm whether they have or not.

Not to pick on May because this is clearly an industry issue. I think the longer drivers make comments like "it's industry standard" the longer truck drivers will will continue to get screwed.
