Class B CDL, non-traditional job

hey firehound approx how many hrs a week do usually work just trying to see if the pay will be worth the 3 months out do u get paid weekly or bi weekly

 

one of my tours with sperry lasted from sunday january 14th or 15th 2006 when i left memphis and i did not return until saturday may 13th, 2006. almost a 120 day tour-(117 to be exact!)

 

pay day is every other friday-(on a bi-weekly basis)

 

10/hr

 

$10/hour? I can go to McDonalds and be home in my McBed every McNight! Vacation sounds great, but after 3 months on the road, that's not vacation, that's just all the days off you'd have at any other job!

 

yes ten dollars an hour for the hours you will work is laughable plus the time away from home and family. when you do go home it does go by way to fast depending on what you scheduled to take off. (one week or two weeks)

 

Okay, it's $10/hr. Away from home months at a time. Company has unbelievably high turnover rate.

Point????

For those rare individuals that can put up with those criteria, let 'em have at it...Keep in mind it is a class-B job.

I'd suggest that the company should bring their pay rate up to more realistic numbers but no sense knocking Sperry if they can get people to work for it. They have a lot more to deal with with turnover at any payscale...Get's expensive on the admin side!

 

I can't help but think "that's just all the days off you'd have at any other job!" would be the case from my understanding of what is being offered.

 

I dunno...my last 'B' job paid $18/hour and I was home every night. Can't see leaving home for less than that. Of course, I was always grossly overweight, equipment was ancient, and the boss was a 'so and so', but he paid the fines and I got paid to take endless back roads to avoid the fuzz. It was better than most of the OTR jobs I've had. But the 200,000 pound load on a rusted out live floor load hammered the last nail in the box for me, I mean, I want to live!

 

Seems like they can only blame themselves. Pay a decent wage, hire good drivers, reduce turnover. I know guys who go out to sea for months at a time and been doing it for over 10 years. Why? Good pay and benefits. You get what you play for. I don't mean to knock anyone, I know times are hard, but this is like a disease with this industry, always trying to get more for less and then complaining about the results. I have always thought it was better to pay one good employee $20/hour to do a good job and not have to worry about him or a lot of turnover, rather than hire 2 guys at $10/hour to do the same job and have constant turnover problems. To me it's just common sense, but I know not everyone thinks like that, heck, I've worked for people that think like that. It just don't make no kinna cents, I mean, sense!
