Hey guys just curious to know if you can tow another truck with a class B license only and a few endorsements?

Only as long as what you tow is 10,000lbs or less.

Drive away tow away is fine. It's a very particular situation.

We used to have that particular item in regulations long ago, I don't know if we still do.

I do not know enough to try it with a class B, Ive always had a A and never cared to learn the limitations of B. I have however been called over qualified and told to stop bothering construction companies with just class B. Darn snooty yankees ...

    That requires a class A CDL, not a B.

And like always, X1 is wrong.
Class A is any combinations vehicle with the towed unit over 10,000 lbs.
Class B is anything over 26,000 and if a towed unit, 10,000 lbs or less.

I'm not sure why this question has morphed into this long a thread. The answer is NO you can NOT tow anything over 10,000 GVW with a class B CDL. You can operate the Truck with nothing on the hook over 10,000 pounds however. Just as a side note I know of nobody that operates these heavy tow trucks that does not hold an A. I also know of several that hold X endorsements in the unlikely event they are required to tow hazmat or tankers.

You don't really believe he put his car into orbit, I hope?

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a 5th wheel tow boom and wanted to start towing my own customers and trucks in the local area if they needed repairs done. I will focus on the class A license now.... I set an appointment to take the written section in the end of this month.

You are also required to have a doubles endorsement if you are towing truck and trailer together

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
