Is it possible to get a job making any real money driving a class B straight truck regional or otr? I have had a class A for 10 plus years but always worked local or route jobs hauling oil our fuel here in kc. Are the drive-away co.'s legit? For 2 yrs I drove to college campuses putting on clothing sales, I would be gone from 3 days to a week but we stayed in hotels. I want to drive class A but all of my experience was 10 yrs ago and its hard trusting any of these co. Thank you!!!

Hey, diger56, there are companies out there called "expedited freight" that drive straight trucks otr. Not too familiar with them but they basically deal with freight that has to be delivered at a specific time and place. "Just in time", if you will. Panther is the main one that I have seen on the roads but I have also seen FED EX with those sleeper B trucks.

There's companies like Panther Expedite where you can make a living driving Class-B box trucks.
Since you haven't driven Class-A for 10 years you will need formal training because the rules have changed and insurance companies have to approve new drivers. The cheapest route is a community college CDL school. The next would be a private CDL school which is much more expensive than the community college schools. The next way is a trucking company CDL school. Millis Transfer has an excellent CDL program and drivers average $50K per year.
Other choices to get you back in the game:
Roehl Transport
Swift Transportation
Midwest-Coast Transport
While you're deciding what's best for you, go to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests" and study all the tests and for the endorsements. There's some good money in tanker/hazmat OTR and there's some companies that will hire you right out of CDL school or with 12 months experience after a trucking company CDL school. With those tanker companies you can expect to make $55K - $65K per year. -
thanks for the info, I have contacted Panther and I am waiting to hear back! I will look into fed ex! Thank U
