Cleaning and maintaining ratchet binders, what do you use?

I once heard on here to just “throw them on the ground..” to unseize them. Forcing them to break free I guess. I tried that and it did not work for me plus other drivers were looking at me crazy.

 

You were supposed to throw them at the other drivers to break them free

 

Haven't had a chance to break out the binders yet. Steady diet of strapping.

 

I unscrew the hooks all the way and put a little grease on the end threads and screw the hooks back in. On the ratchet part I use a little WD40 when the reversing lever starts to get a little stiff.

 

atf fluid, use a spray bottle and when they are open give the threads a skirt , keeps them from rusting and seizing up

 

Could a diesel soaked rag work well as a poor man’s all-in-one solution? Clean the threads with it and then close them up.

 

I put jif peanut butter on the threads, let it harden in the sun, then sprinkle trai mix on it.......

 

50/50 mix of acetone and atf oil.
Keep it away from good paint.

 

WD-40. I know, it's more of a solvent than a lubricant. But it does the job and it doesn't build up and attract dirt.
