Back trailer back up to the dock and tell shipping they need to let you on the dock to close the door you think its a safety issue otherwise

More and more trailers seem to have the make believe ladder to the right of the DOT bar, which I aplodded.
But bottom line drivers its your job to keep you safe.born&raisedintheusa and ncmickey Thank this. -
We are not allowed to climb in from ground level per safety dept.

Our trailers have a handle on the right edge of the left door, and an intermediate step on the bumper. With the left door closed, I use the handle, and reach over and grab the middle hinge on the right door, I walk right up there like it was a ladder. Even with the occasional sweep out, I leave that left door closed. I sweep everything to the back, get down, open the door, and sweep the rest by hand from the ground.
About 5 years ago, I did fall off the back of the truck. I somehow missed the handle, and my right foot somehow missed the middle step, out I fell, landed on my back, knocked the wind right out of me. Messed up my shoulder, it’s finally back to normal after a slow progression over the years. Be careful.born&raisedintheusa and ncmickey Thank this. -

Even if there was a ladder installed on the side of the trailers Swift or Western would find a way to rip it off.

I use my 5th wheel pin puller to grab one of the hinges on the trailer. This gives me a handhold while I step up on the ISS bumper.
