I been staying busy, but not a real hard worker in the first place. Bills have been getting paid on time and I've got a good short list of customers that value good service and communication. No real backup plan here either. Probably like most men here, I've done other stuff before to make a dollar. So if I end up deciding to have a truck sale, I'll figure something out. I've faced hard times before, and right now isn't hard times. Not even close.
I got two new reefer trailers due in a couple months. I'm inclined to embrace the suck and make an effort to take them. I took a similar leap of faith when I bought the trailers I have now in '16 and '17, and know first hand what the benefits look like. Same with the not so new anymore Macks. When fuel went over $3.50, the new trucks became cash flow positive.
I've already been dealing with escalating repair expenses on the current trailers, so it's time. If I'm unable to close the deal on the new ones, I'll keep running my old ones as-is. The trade off is risk mostly, with the repair occurrence and costs being less predictable and nearly always inconvenient.
My personal opinion is equipment prices aren't going to fall like many think. The shine's come off the lottery winner used sales, but I don't see it continuing to fall to a great extent. Too many fleets already nursing old equipment. I expect inflation will continue to run for another 2-3 years, preventing the price of everything from falling. I also think this winter is going to be real hard for new entrants that bought high and are now selling their service low, and there will be further culling of that group. Coincidentally that also shores up used equipment inventory, so there's that.
Being a magnanimous boss, I gave myself an unexpected week off this week. My regular outbound got rescheduled due to Turkey Day, so I'm electing to wait for next Friday instead of hustling. In the mean time catch up on some crap that needs doing around the house and get some good sleep.
Closing up shop or thinking about it? 2.0 Heavy hitters welcome.

Why my JD z950r decided to start marking its territory I do not know. Things you see while chilling in the garage I guess. I also realize I have a rather fat mouse running around. Always something my friends!
