Do you see air lines or electrical lines going to the fan clutch? That'll tell you whether you have a pneumatic or viscous fan clutch.

Air lines. Electrical lines only from the selonoid. Wish it was a viscous fan called on that they told me they don't make a viscous fan the Detroit, only for the Mercedes engine. Only getting 4 volts at the selonoid so there's a bad wire somewhere.

I'm not certain about Detroit. Dont rely on that signal from the ECM to the fan control solenoid to be 12 VDC because it won't be. I've been fooled by the wonky reading @ air fan solenoids before. Just monitor the voltage for switching or changing state. Dont focus on the voltage amount.

At the end of your wire hunt you may find nothing is what I'm getting at. Ya know?

So what do you think it can be ? When we removed the relay and installed a jumper wire we got air coming out of the selonoid but fan didn't release.

If is a Borg Warner they tend to freeze locked up if not used in awhile. Put shop air to it and tap it with a hammer.

    Goodysnap Thanks this.

I put about 120 psi to it sprayed it and put a hammer to it and same ####. I think I should replace the clutch fan and go from there.

I don’t think so. Those usually only get supplied 3 - 5 volts.

I'd be looking at the fan clutch itself. Is it a Borg Warner? Those have a friction disc in them which is supposed to get replaced before it gets worn too far. If it gets to a point where it's flush, then it gets to be pretty hard on the fan clutch itself.
