I thought it would be interesting to see what other drivers out there have for a relationship with their dispatchers. We always hear phrases like truck drivers don’t quit trucking companies, They quit dispatchers and so forth.

    Pick one: or elaborate

Strictly business/ communicate on a need to know basis only?

business but you’ll chat once in a while?

I can take him or leave him, wouldn’t complain if I got a new one.

I know his entire family and wouldn’t mind hanging out on the weekends?

I hope he gets lost and never comes back?

Despise my dispatcher literally can’t stand him?

I figured most of us would fall into those categories somewhere

My first job, I got into the mostly business but would #### chat sometimes until I realized the man was just using it to butter me up for those “crisis loads” that they ALWAYS have on your day off. Loll

current job i’d say it’s strictly business and need to know only. Just how it is. But that pretty much works for me.

Currently: Strictly business/communicate on a need to know basis only. I don’t like anyone at my employer, dispatcher and above.

Past: I’ve mostly had amazing dispatchers. I’ve had a few fill-ins that weren’t good, because they felt they needed to play games. No need to lie about anything, because you’re afraid to tell me what’s coming. If you’re going to screw me, tell me upfront; don’t let me blindly go into it. No need to be deceitful, because you want to play favorites and give your driver the better opportunity.

The best dispatch teams I’ve ever had were at Maverick Transportation and Dot Foods-Mt Sterling.

With this question it needs to be pointed out that not all trucking is created equal. In the LTL business for example a bad dispatcher will make you hate your life, and very few decisions they make will they be held to account for no matter how stupid.

Been with the company three years.
My dispatched quit six months ago. He treated me pretty well right from the go: I ran the West a lot; got a lot of loads between Midwest and west.
His replacement took a bit to learn that I was in no way interested in sitting in Philly or NY traffic to end up with 250 miles on the day.
He’s learning. We get along OK but not like I did with the other one.

Well, coming from a whole different background mine might be a little more interesting or not
First dispatcher was my grandfather. He was awesome.
Next was my dad he was a major pain in my ###
Then for 30 some years my wife snd my mom handle the dispatching chores….they just told me what to do and I said yes ma’am lol
A few years back I kinda became a company driver, but I really only dealt with the owner and his right hand guy and they were both drivers so it’s pretty easy and we did socialize quite a bit… Still do occasionally
Then I retired….. But that didn’t exactly work out the way I planned
So I’m kind of back at it, but this truck might as well be mine. I can do whatever I want with it.
The brokerage I work with kinda has dispatchers, but it’s more like regional brokers each one in the office has their section of country and I only work with a couple of them. They’re all ex drivers…..for multiple reasons I doubt I’d everv socialize with them…but we get along just fine.
    So there you have it
