Yeah, the timing really stunk on that trip! It's too bad we didn't get a chance to catch up while I was up there - the trailer checked out well enough, and after nearly 1,100 miles bobtailing I needed to get moving!

It went something like this -

"Here's the paperwork to look over and sign"

"Where's the trailer? I need to look it over before we do the papers."

"It's out there in the freezing tundra that we call a yard up here in NE."

"Great! I'll be back in 15 minutes looking like a blueberry popsicle."

14 minutes and 35 seconds passes.....

    "Th-th-tha-that tr-tr-trailerrrrr will do j-j-j-jussst fine - now if I c-c-can make my f-f-f-fingers hold a p-pen to s-s-sign my n-n-name."

"Here's your load info and a washout receipt - they load until midnight tonight. Hey, wasn't he just here a minute ago?!"

I'm an awful sitcom writer - so I apologize for the sheer lack of talent - but I'm sure you get the idea. The tires on that thing didn't touch down for 2 weeks until I got home for some R&R. Now I'm back out again, but I may be headed back up there as things progress. I'd rather have a new trailer for the same cost, or get my own for far less - either way, it'll be back to NE I go!

Take care up there Gears, and you don't have to worry about me stealing the weather and trying to take it to Georgia! :biggrin_2559:

Now you can color in Nebraska on your US map!
It really was a frigid cold weekend up here but believe it or not, wasn't near the coldest by far. You do good writing....I think should send a transcript to ABC or NBC!

Well at least it sounds like another trip is in order, so maybe then we'll give it another go. I'm in Missouri, it's like 40 degrees and I walk around without a jacket on and all the locals think I'm a nut-job.

Glad to hear all checked out well and money is once again flowing in (and out) of your pockets. I've been kinda running hard this past couple of weeks as I want to be home for the weekend. Supposed to hit 47 on Sunday....break out the coppertone and beach blankets!

Be safe out there my friend!

Save your money and plum in a pair of good air gauges,..One for the trailer and one for the truck,.....

Then you just need to weigh a couple of loads and figure out what pressure you want to be at,....

On my car hauler anything at or just under 60 psi was right about legal max weight,....

I have that on the drives of my Pete, came with it when I bought the truck. 60PSI I am anywhere from having 5000BS to play with to being HEAVY, Ticket worth of Heavy, so I scale when I am touching 60PSI.

BUT,...It's a whole lot cheaper than the "right weigh" scales,...

It just takes a little time to work out the psi that works for your setup,...

I have air gauges on the steer axle, drives, and on the trailer. Still can't tell what's too light and costing me money, and heavy enough to bill me. I'll be buying an on-board scale system as soon as I can afford it, and get the trailer I'll be pulling from here on out (not this one). There's no sense in plumbing a trailer for it, just to switch trailers again and start all over.

The next big issue is trying to figure out where the rear hopper needs to be before you load the front, or vice-versa. I've run a pile of loads, and still can't figure that out. And I just refuse to bring a shovel along and throw it over the divider - I'd rather pay a ticket and run around the scales until I'm light enough if I have to. As a matter of fact, I've already started cutting loads off at 24 tons when they don't look capable of loading accurate. It only took one heavy trip......

Well I picked up my first load, well 1st pickup of a 2 pickup load going to Johnson City NY. 1st Pickup took 50% of the trailer, and I wonder if I can get by the weight Station with out getting a ticket, for being so lite. 3000LBS

Congrats Coastie! Where there's a will, there's a way! Gosh, with all that air you're hauling, think of what you'll save on tires, brakes and fuel:biggrin_255:

I'm up in PA for tonight and tomorrow, just unloaded in Mechanicsburg. One thing I can say from it is that you never want to miss a turn in the old North East! I had to run down an old narrow street (no turns for trucks) about 2 miles, make a left, and then find a place to turn around. The street I needed looked more like a driveway, and I passed it up looking for an actual street - to realize it right after.

When I found a place to flip, it was an older building with a truck dock and a good sized lot. Then I looked up, and it had a no left turn sign right there on a pole, with a truck sign below it. I thought - screw this mess - they have a truck dock to hold the weight, and the room to turn around. Flipped it around and headed back, after backing up traffic 20 cars deep behind me waiting to turn. I figured they needed to wait, since half of them probably worked at the plant I was delivering to - and the other half bought their products!

Good luck out there, and I know it feels great to have things going again!

HAHAHAH Going in to pickup the first part, I turned left when I was suppose to gone straight. Narrow Road. I came up to an intersection with a choice of 5 roads to turn onto. So I did a wide turn as if I was going to flip it around, then backed in another road. Then I made a left on to another road, and backed straight back and then left on the road I came in on.
