I know what you mean - seems like you can drive anywhere until you try it in a big truck!

Last night coming through I95 in VA, traffic backed up like a parking lot for miles (and I thought I waited it out long enough before passing through - HA). So I start poking at the screen on the GPS, as it's too much fun to try and read an MC atlas while driving, and see an alternate. I get off 95, make a right, and about a quarter mile down the road narrows and I see a bridge sign 29 Tons Max. I'm loaded, and thinking to myself - those cheap mammajamma's! I had to throw on the four ways, wait until a couple cars passed, back up about 300 feet, and then flip it around in an impossibly small intersection. I came within a foot of rearranging some road signs, and I've got a great idea for cities - BUILD SOME FREAKIN BRIDGES OR PUT THE SIGNS UP BEFORE YOU GET THERE. Just a thought....

Sounds like you wouldn't have that problem on this run Coastie - heck you could probably almost make a drive-thru at McD's :)

I just have an airgauge on mine for the trailer, works just fine. Hooks in where the air bag supply is

In the east it's impossible to outguess the interstate's unless you're real familiar w/ local roads. I don't try that anywhere really. These rigs are just too big and difficult to turn around.

Well I hope I do not have any problems. I do try to be careful and not miss a turn, or turn the wrong way. But yes It does happen. Sometimes you may have to drive many miles to find a place to get turned around, other times, not a problem at all. It's a chance we all take.

Well had my first Beef with the COmpnay. But not a get out and way bad though.

They had me go to the main Office to have a Qual Com installed, OK no problem. Took from 5PM till midnight to do, suppose to take 2 hrs. I had to leave by midnight to make my Drop on time. Took a 45 minute nap, not good. Had to stop again before I even get out of NY state and take another nap, Running off the Road tired. I ended up 4 hrs late. No Problem, they unloaded me. but still I am well GGRrrrrrr about it. Up to that point I had been getting loaded or unloaded with the Company 30min prior to my Appointments.

Now for the Bigger Grrrrr!!!!! The Qual Comm is only there for them to track me for the Customers. Not for use. So I have a piece equipment, that I am responcable for, Paying 20.00 a week for, Holes drilled in to my Dash Board for, that Not going to get USED!!!!!!

They can install a satellite beacon on the trailers instead - seems like a much more cost-effective solution. Sounds like it's a little late for that though......

Qualcomm is one of the main reasons I run my own truck, and I'd almost rather be cross-eyed than to have one. There are too many errors in a day that need to be adjusted out here on the road. Not to mention that it seems to take an hour or better sometimes to bed down for the night.

So the real question is, are they still requiring paper logs from you? And is there any certainty that they are not using the tracking system in the Qualcomm unit to compare or audit your logs? That, would be truly bothersome (at best) and you may want to ask other drivers who've been there for awhile. I know I'd be in some sheyat!

Well the trailer I am pulling is a rental trailer from Ryder. They seem to be very relaxed in the Log Dept, such as they want the Driver be very careful what information that goes on the trip report. Nothing that can be tracked. They want the trip number on all paper work, but NOT ON THE LOGS.

Qual Com to check logs, No, not the reason. Safety and my Dispatcher said no to that. It only to track me if a customer wants to know where I am at.

That doesn't sound kosure viz the FMCSRs Coastie. You might want to get the "green book" out and do a little CYA. I believe that either YOU have to write the customer PO numbers on each log page to tie your movements back to reality, or include a company trip number that does.

Just sayin' man - it's your ticket.

I agree. I always put PO or BOL number on logbook. I also agree with looking into the regs to see exactly what's required. Especially with FMCSR's 2010 program coming out this summer, drivers are going to be held as accountable as the carriers. CYA!!

    Good post ironpony

Many customers require tracking. You got to have Qual Com to get the freight.
