hey guys, i used to have the Cobra 29 WX/NW/ST but it got stolen back in 08, im wanting to get a new radio and i just saw the new 29 LX LE that came out late this summer. My question is, which radio should i get. I know everything (mostly) about the 29 WX/NW/ST as far as how good it was for me anyway. Ive heard this new 29 LX LE is good also, but i heard its lacking some WX band performance, which, to me is important since i do a lot of storm chasing etc. Ive never had a radio peak/tuned so im not sure what to do as far as that goes either and whether thats worth it or not.
Basically, i dont know if anyone has that new 29 LX LE or not, but if anyone does, and has also had the 29 WX/NW/ST id like you guys to tell me which would be a better buy. Also, what accessories should i buy for it while im getting it
Cobra 29 LX LE vs. Cobra 29 WX/NW/ST

They are basically the same radio except one has an all digital face and some other not needed features. I am not sure why the LE has a weak weather section because the boards are the same between the two.
-
Same radio, different face. I would go with the LXLE personally, I have it and love it. Anything "soundtracker" from Cobra I have been told to stay the heck away from, so I have. Another to consider would be the Cobra 29 NW WX BT....I have that one as well and like it alot.
-
yeah ive looked at that one but what would be the use of bluetooth on a CB.....
also, anyone here heard of Sparkys CB Shack? they have the LXLE for sale with a tune/alighn and echo mic for 135 bucks. Also same set up with an RFX-75 for 229
Anyone care to explain what exactly an RFX-75 does for the radio and dumb it up for me...im new to anything beyond a stock radio. -
Sparky is one of the guys that you CAN trust. As far as the RFX-75. It ups the output power of the radio which makes it a stronger transmitting radio without putting extra strain on the radio. The only internal modification is that you disable the final section (output section) and the RFX replaces it with a stronger Final Section (output section).

Sparky's is the best. I have one of these new Cobra 29's with the RFX75 installed. Got it from Sparky's. It's DK'ing at 3-watts and swinging past 100-watts. Using it with my TNT-350HD.

so would the RFX-75 upgrade be a better choice then just the radio tuned and aligned?
Also, since it comes with an echo mic, will it still have the original mic with it as well in case i dont end up liking the echo mic? -

I hate echo on radios. I would ask him to put in a different mic such as the sky thumper or an astatic 636.
-
well the orig. mic comes with the radio from what i understood on sparkys forum. What is a Sky Thumper?
