I have an out of the box cobra 29 ltd and i just bought a KL-203 amp for it. My question is... do I need to do anything to the radio (ie. peak and tune or any other internal mods) to make the amp work or get the most out of it. I hooked it up like the diagram showed and i didn't notice any change in performance. Any help would be much appreciated. Also there is a switch on the amp for ssb or am what is the difference between these settings and which one should I be using?

I don't thank you do with a stock radio,But I not an expert on amps. You could goggle it or check you tube. There mite even be something on this web sit about it.I would not thank a stock cobra would mess to much up,most of the time there under 4 watts out of the box.
-
Where did you get the amp? Do you have a power meter to check output? Your CB should not Dead Key over 2 watts. But a stock out of box Cobra can work. Set it for AM. Is you 203 set to work on 11 meters? If not you'll need to set it up to work CB by moving the jumper to the next set of pins. With the 203 you should be seeing 100-130 watts out.

Big m, what do you mean by the jumper? Do i need to take the cover off the amp? And if so is this way to do or do i need to do some soldering? Cause I'm not very good at soldering and whats the difference between the ssb setting and the am setting?

The RM Italy website says it already covers 27 MHz so no conversion is needed.
Your Cobra 29 is AM so the switch should be set on AM

Big m, I searched for it on Amazon and bought it from some electronics website it came in theRM Italy box with schematics. One thing I found that was odd is that it is blue. All the pics I saw of them were red. It is not the KL-203 P. Though.

The blue 203 should be the P model with 3 switches. The jumper should be a little black jumper like the ones found on computer CD/DVD drives. in the red 203's they have 3 pins. With some models the pins 1&2 are used. And the others it's pins 2&3. I have both types so I can't say just what 2 pins you need covered. Also I've seen some sold with no jumper in the amp. And you had to find one and add it your self.
And Hammer some do need to be converted. Like ones from Copper no. H&Y yes they did. -
The jumper have been change to solder pads. It should be 3 solder pads next to L-4 on the right side. Put a bead of solder from #2 to #3. That should unlock 11 meters (CB band).
grasshopper13 Thanks this. -
