I've heard those are good mics. The only one I've seen had a bad element. I was told they have a different element than any other mic, so parts are hard to come by. I thought somebody said on here a few weeks ago they had quit making them??????

I have the cobra 29 lx. Is it ok to go in and turn vr4 all the way up for 100% modulation? would I talk further? I see vids on youtube of people doing it. I run the Cobra with a wilson 1000 mag mount on the roof of my F150 swr is 1.1 average threw out all channels and when I wanna talk a far distance I use a TC-300 linear. The other day I tried it out and my buddy could hear me about 13miles away from where he was sitting with my linear on and only about 4 miles with linear off. Shouldn't I be getting out better then this? There are no cb techs in my area to take it to to have them matched, anything else I can do to the cb my self? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks CloudNine

Most Cobras are plenty loud if you turn the mic gain all the way up. You will NOT notice any improved distance or performance in normal use. On the other hand, the way to learn is do. :D If you want to learn more of the technical stuff, www.cbtricks.com is a good place to go.
