I don't understand why so many want a Connex. They sound like you're talking from inside a tin can to me. I'll take my 1988 Cobra 29 Philippines made with a side mount Mic jack anytime over one of those. Heck, my 200 puts out crystal clear audio and talks over most anything without a linear behind it. Although, the 200 does have a internal amp. Still has more channels, a built-in frequency counter reads 6 digits not 5 or 4 like Galaxy puts out. Just my. 02 I guess but I'm heavily partial.

Those old Cobras were some great radios.
The tin can sound you hear in many Connex or Galaxy radios is because people don't know how to adjust the echo and time settings.
A little too much and it sounds like crap.
I do like my Galaxy radios too though. My 80's model 44v is a solid radio and so far my 94HP is doing a fine job.
I still have 2 old Cobra 29LTDs that get used on occasion..... -
Yeah, I had a 94 that I traded outright for a 200 from the guy in Dandridge TN. Most people say I got ripped off but I know better. Run that one at the house and the other 200 my dad gave me in my truck. Usually have both that and the 29 with a box hooked up setup at the same time. I liked that 94 but I had to trade. Still have a 148 in case this 28 acts out on me. You're right though, too much echo and it ruins a radio. I turn mine on, bump it back almost off then barely touch it and it's perfect.

it would depend on which guy in dandridge you were doing business with. if it was the loves (mike), that was a big mistake. if it was mountain view electronics across from the closed truck stop, then you would be ok.

It wasn't the owner at the Love's, the fat guy. He's a jerk. Always trying to tell me that a monkey made is a piece of crap. It was the sort of muscular older guy. His personal radio, I know the 94 is more expensive because I paid cash for it brand new at 163 one day but I just like the 200 better. No mods done, original radio. Good serial and still works fine. The 94 put out around 130, same as the 200. A lot clearer audio though. Surface mount technology is frowned upon in many circles, same used in the RCI 69FFB4 and C4. Seems to work fine though. Don't ever trust channel 5 in west Memphis though. They say they're authorized by Cobra, only two shops are. The one in Dandridge you mentioned and there's one in Oregon.

Want a cheaper radio with a few less knobs, the General 40 uses the same four MOSFET transistors as the 94.

It's all what you want basically. First off the older Cobra radios are OUTSTANDING! Tough as nails and will last forever! The new Connex radios I don't care too much for. The only one I'd have they make now is the 3300HP. The others have that changing color junk. I used to run a Connex 4300HP. GREAT RADIO!!! Connex really screwed up when they stopped making it. Now the hottest brand now is Galaxy IMO. Since the OP is from Memphis, lets go over the shops from West Memphis to Nashville. #1 Channel 5 CB Shop in West Memphis(never heard anything good about them, they talk about how good they are but their own radio sounds bad lol) #2 Swamp Dog at the 42 (insanely high and is a smart ###, good tech though) #3 GM at the 87 (decent tech but talks about other shops too much) #4 Chuck at the 126 (AWESOME tech!!! GREAT prices too) #5 Shop at the 163 (COMPLETE JOKE!!!!) Now the NEW Connex boards are junk. They sound crappy. Now the older Connex boards sound great! Best echo board IMO is the Turbo Board. I HIGHLY recommend Chuck to everyone! I promise you'll leave happy!!!

FWIW the Connex and Galaxy radios have boards built by the same company. (Ranger) Some Connex and Galaxy radios even share the same board, same face layout, etc. What's the 200 you speak of? The Cobra GTL 200 DX?
p.s. i have two Cobra 29's....from the mid 70's.
-
Yeah the 200 GTL DX Nightwatch.

I'm talking about the echo boards.
