I’m sure they were made aware of the codes and zoning of their property when they purchased it years ago. This is like when everyone was freaking out about not being able to park along the streets in Minneapolis anymore but then all the sudden these parking lots started springing up all over and suddenly the owners could afford to pay to park somewhere once they started getting tickets. Seems like someone down there would see it as a possible business opportunity and make a commercial lot somewhere in the area instead of just complaining about it. It’s been going on for over a year now.

For the most part residential code enforcement is only done after a complaint. That's how it's been everywhere I've ever lived at least.

Doesn’t change the fact that they were probably aware of the codes and zoning regs when they purchased their property. Why would anyone with a truck purchase property where they could possibly have an issue with parking? This is like a road having a 30mph speed limit but for 10 years everyone has been driving 45 without issue and then someone complains so everyone gets tickets but somehow want to blame the person who complained.

Circumstances change in people's lives. I seriously doubt they're recent property owners. I do believe they mentioned how long theyve lived there. Didn't seem to be a problem for years until new people moved into the area.

Even if we ignore the parking issue the newcomers will cause property values to soar and then the subsequent tax increases that have a real potential to cause generations worth of family history to have to move. Its called gentrification.

Ive seen it many times. Ive also seen people lose their lifelong investments like homes and property be made worthless from the newcomers making the neighborhood undesirable to working people.

Unless you dig through the codes and read through pages upon pages of legalese for the jurisdictions you're in, it's not obvious if you can park commercial vehicles. A speed limit has posted signs up to make it pretty obvious.

I don't think it's a revenue thing, people just selectively enforce the laws. Wasn't an issue for me until the neighbor decided he wanted to play Monopoly.

There's neighborhoods around the Area here where you can't even park a pickup or van on your property very upper class hoods. Only service vehicles allowed

There are DEFINITELY parts of DuPage County that come to mind like that! They don’t want “poor people” living next to them!
