Yup. A lot in the western states (California) for 57' trailers and size limitations on some of the mountain roads.

I am in Europe right now and see the trucks here closeup. They can keep them. The moving company came the other day and I got to see inside their truck. It's OK I guess. Had a 9 spd in it. Almost all tractors are single axle with super singles. A lot of the trailers are 3 axle super singles. Truck/trailer comb are pretty short; not long at all.

Scania is one of the major brands over here along with MAN; once in a while you see a Volvo. There are other brands, but I don't remember the names; I don't recall ever seeing a long nose; all of them are cab overs. And they ALL drive 90 kph (about 55 mph). If you see one driving any faster than that it is only by 1 or 2 kph. I hate when they try to pass each other.

Ain't nobody gonna slow down to let the (minutely) faster truck by. Used to be hoods were easier to service, now they're tucking the engine under the dash and hanging all that emissions .bs on it, a cabover might just be the ticket.

    A 9 speed?That was a small truck.

Super singles on the drive? NO
The few that tried that have stopped using them, better look closer.

Scania is not even in the top 3.

The semi's are build to be a little shorter then 55 feet. With max trailer lenght being 44 1/2 feet.
That's all the law allows for "normal" operations.

But those short semi's are loaded heavier then their US cousins. So size doesn't tell all. :biggrin_255:

It does get irritating sometimes when a truck is passing another truck and there is a lot of traffic. They are only going 55 and the normal traffic is going over 75 (120 kph). On the autobahn there are places with no speed limit at all ( not everywhere though). Unless it is raining, then the speed limit is 120 kph.

Places like Luxembourg the speed limit is 130.
