ok wish i had pics, but wanted to share this with all of you. when i was running flat bed i got tired of buying rack every week. those junk things at the truck stops and trailer shops dont work well plus having to cut 4x4s and what not. so here is what i did. I got 4 in flat steel about 1/4 in thick. maybe a hair more been a while...and ways. i cut them about 3 ft long and than made V's to weld on to it. I made one big V at the ends and than a set of small ones on the middle right beside the big ones. this way i did not have to angle my 4x4s and i could keep those tiny coils off the deck to prevent them from getting damaged...

Vv-------vV Untitled.jpg looks like this just upside down....hope this helps some of you...it saved me so much money time and headaches

They sale coil racks like that, I still prefer regular old racks and good quality beveled hard wood.

Should have patented the design !!!!

Here's what they have now. I hear the "Coil Rack Heavy Duty" one's are the best (3rd ones on the list)

Alot of places won't load unless you have beveled 4x4 now.

Yeah, take exit 15 (Ripley St) north to the end. That's US20 and turn right. It's about 1 mile down on the left, just past the truck parts store. Use the 1st entrance as the 2nd entrance has steel mill size pot holes that they forgot to put a house over LOL

yea close but mine where alittle thicker steel. i never had an issue loading coils on them.matter fact us steel inspected them and approved them for use for their loads. with the way mine where built when you placed the 4x4 in it, it sat angled so you had more contact with the coil and no flat spots to bend the coil. same as beveling the wood but i didnt have to carry lots of 4x4 for other loads either...as for rubber best i found was some heavy duty mud flaps from a local store by me. not sure what brand they where. cost alittle more than avg mud flap but worked good....yea should have pantent it...lol

Those are pretty common up here. I never had them but thought it wasn't a bad idea because it saved some space when you were storing them and they were nicer for loading pup coils. Plus if you needed to dig up some wood in a pinch it's so much easier to get normal 4x4's. Guys that haul coils all the time will sometimes notch their wood so the 4x4 lays on the floor. It's easier on floor cross members. With those style it's not as easy/possible to do that. BTW I've never had a customer question using beveled wood to load regular freight but seen a lot of guys looking for bevelled wood at steel mills.
