So since being a new CDL truck driver / owner operator I have gone nearly 10,000 miles.
From Dallas to Idaho to Atlanta and Up to Ohio.
I have in one month counted 16 Semi trucks on the side of the road with their hood up.
So far out of the 16 trucks, 3 have had Red motors and 11 have had Yellow motors.
One truck had the hood up but I could not see forsure what color the motor was.
1 trucks motor looked black or dark blue.
Kind of interesting.
I own a 3406B. Not too worried I think any motor will last if it gets taken care of.

Sounds like some bad luck for the Cats. You have yourself a great cat motor.
-
IMO, it has alot to due with preventive maint, the drive it till it breaks attitude just doesnt cut it. When a drive comes in and says something isnt right, or doesnt feel right, might be time to check it out a little bit closer.
Another thing, right now with the way money is going, sometimes ya just have to drive it till it breaks and hope the money is there to fix it. -
Cats and Cummins are yellow (from factory). Detroits are usually a shade of green. Rebuit motors can be any color the owner wants it to be.
Color doesnt mean squat to why the truck is on side of road. Usually it is because some one was practicing deferred maintenance and it finally caught up with them.
You take care of your rig and it will for the most part take care of you too. -
Oh yeah, never Ford blue.rjones56 Thanks this. -
usually you will find cats are a bright shade of yellow
a detroit is pale green
cummins are a bit different--they used to all be beige--now also there are black ones with red tops and all red ones
volvo are bit harder to tell cause most of them are used for boat anchors
and the same applys for mercedes
detroit did make a silver one--but it would be harder to find
i guess you could paint them any colour--but i believe the only one i saw painted other than a factory colour was a pos for sale on ebay
on show trucks--yes you may find other colours--painted to match truck -
Boy can tell who the youngster are.
Cummins and CAT both made white colored engines as well. -

I'll take a 3408 in white please.... -
