Bought a 04 Columbia with a 14L Detroit as a grain hauler, ran great the first two weeks we used it but I am starting to have problems with it.

Problem 1 was I got a PID 354 Code. I replaced the Relative Humidity sensor and the code went away. The sensor was clearly broken upon visual inspection.

Problem 2 is a SID 060 code. Ive looked it up to find its a PMW #4 open circuit which leads me to the VPOD.

The symptoms of the truck are as follows: When we first took delivery at idle the truck sounded like a jet engine. A few trips before it through the SID 060 code I noticed at idle the jet (turbo) noise would fluctuate and somewhat cut in and out and it sounded like the boost was increasing and decreasing without any input from the throttle. At that time the truck ran fine. Then without any other notice I took off loaded and it seemed like my power was way down and I can hardly hear the engine boosting at all. At idle there is no turbo noise. Upon return from that trip I checked codes to find the SID 060. I am heading out now to check the VPOD for loose wires, ect. Is there any thing else I can inspect without a laptop that has the Detroit software? Should I just get a new VPOD harness since the detroit book says SID 060 is an open circuit?

Sorry for the long post, I am just trying to provide as many details as possible

Yes on the short harness to VPOD. Those and VPOD's are common fail items.

Believe it or not when everything is working correctly they sound like a jet engine when they idle.
If you don't hear that sound apoun idle something is wrong....

New VPOD fixed it, I installed a new harness too because the connectors were looking questionable. Thanks for the help

Sounds like the link on the turbo the vpod controls is worn out, mine did that when I was messing with the adjustment on it.

Near the turbo there are two steel tubes ( 1/4 " ? ) that come up to a sensor mounted on a bracket. There are rubber hoses between then. Be sure nothing is broken or stopped up. After that you probably need to find someone with a scan tool. JMO

I thank they had two. Passenger side between the frame and engine behind the axle.
