We haul out of there all the time. No problems. But then it's not for CHR either.

Tried to haul one load out of Rittman. Trailer was refused despite no leaks, light, etc for a reefer. Why? First I didn't have plugs for the vent holes (wasn't told the load would need them), and secondly, my trailer was too old for them. Wouldn't tell me what they wanted, other than they couldn't load me. Like playing a game of 20 questions with someone missing half their head. It was a crap load and I called the broker to tell them I didn't want the load.

If its not currently raining, and you need to know if the road is wet, what do you look for?

........ Water spraying UPWARDS from your tandems....

And those tiny water molecules will have enough force to go thru a hairline crack and still have velocity to contaminate a load?

Probably not. But would you bet your $50,000 load on it?

South Hutchinson, Ks, and Silver Springs, NY were never that bad with me, but I went to the Pittman OH plant about 10 years ago and never again.

about shippers like Morton and Cargill, the main reason for being super strict with food grade is most likely due to food security regs. I'll i can say is if you go to any place where you are gonna get loaded with that stuff is ALWAYS, and I repeat, ALWAYS, bring in a CLEAN, DRY, AND LEAK FREE trailer. This kind of freight can and will be ruined by ANY rain water or snowmelt leaking into your wagon. And NEVER break the seal until after you check in at the receiver and have them verify it. I have seen drivers get whole loads rejected, and drivers getting fired automatically from companies for it. As for DOT cops making you break that seal during inspection, I advise checking with what ever company you at working for.

It's called capillary action. Unscientific version is that liquids will climb into a small space against gravity.

I'm stealing that one. I don't care who you are, that's fn funny!

PS: Walmart sells some chair leg tips (look like crutch tips) in the hardware section that do a nice job of plugging reefer drains. They are about $1 for a pack of 4. I learned this when getting loaded with bakery ingredients near Chattanooga at one time. The shipper was kind enough to 1. Tell me about these chair leg tips 2. Give me directions to the Walmart 2 miles away and 3. Let me drop my trailer right there on the dock to bobtail over and get them while they waited. See, not everyone that ships this way is a douchebag.

I keep them near my tools and use them on frozen and dry temp control loads when drains aren't needed, to keep a tiny bit more cold inside.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why none of the dock hands had not already cleaned out the Walmart of their inventory of these things and selling them for $10 a pack out of the trunk of their car.

Drain plugs reminds me of another thing not mentioned yet. Ever had insects find your truck or trailer? OMG what a pain. Long story short, my dearly departed driver John had some ants find his little buddy's cat food while parked at the terminal. Talk about a royal hassle to get rid of them. Come to find out, one or two had apparently gotten on via some grass laying against the ICC bumper on the trailer and followed their noses to the cab. Next thing you know, the whole nest is after it and they are in every possible nook and cranny. Unbelievable! Ever since, I am super careful about parking (longer than a couple minutes) against any vegetation. No tree branches against the sides and no grass or brush against the bumper or mudflaps.
