Maybe. "Anything can happen in court". The defense may argue a seat belt might have prevented fatal injuries.

The only jury that can be seated are presumably all irresponsible motorists themselves, as well as the judge, prosecutors, defense attorneys, cops, witnesses, bailiffs, everyone in the audience, and everyone else in and outside the courthouse within a circle of a diameter of 2500 or more miles. There ain't no guessing the outcome of a jury trial, despite everything he could exit the court holding the World's Best Driver award.

Hi 54, I thought that too, why would you even take a bus like that? Or why not a motor coach? I'm sure if he pulls through, he won't do that again. And I've noticed how traffic has changed in this instant gratification world. " This is taking too long, if I tail gate, I'll get there sooner",it seems.

I can make the case that OnGuard actually adds more risk to driving a rig than intended, and the benefits of it do not outweigh these risks. I've made the case right here on this forum and many others agree, those who have had direct experience with this collision avoidance system. Unless a major design overall is implemented in them, e.g. major programming upgrade, they will remain this way. Then they would also need to be field tested for years before being implemented into a driving force. But the odds of this happening are nil.

I personally know of a company that has used OnGuard and had them disconnected on the basis of negative safety feedback from the drivers.

I can only imagine the craziness Conway Freight drivers have to deal with with their lane drift correction electronics (along with OnGuard).

The madness needs to stop. Fully test this stuff before putting it in big trucks. Then test more. Don't claim the electronics were implemented on the basis of "safety" when in reality the drivers have become glorified guinea pigs.
I was raised in a faith that I no longer follow, but left a lot of unanswered questions
The answers are all there my friend; it is up to every individual to not only ask the tough questions, but to take personal responsibility in seeking/understanding the answers.

God Bless and thanks for your reply.

    That hasn't changed obviously.

What has changed, are the lawyers have ruined this country with all the litigation. Companies think if they put this nifty new "safety device" on the truck that it will keep them out of trouble, as well as lower their premiums.

What trucking companies have not realized yet is that they are being SCAMMED. I seriously don't believe it's intentional on the part of products like OnGuard, but the end result is a scam nonetheless, considering the current integrity of these electronic "safety" devices.

I agree with you completely. I am speaking from the point of view of the idiots in Bentonville who buy these half-baked safety ideas and who put so much faith in the OnGuard system. I prefer having a skilled driver at the wheel and not relying on a computer system to safely control the truck. See a different post I made about the OnGuard system and its likely relation to the death of a Walmart driver in Arkansas 3 months ago.

Thanks, and I didn't mean to imply that you were in favor of these devices. The level of disgust I have for these devices and the scam that is going on runs deep.

What we need is communication. Period. Enough drivers like you and me and others sound the alarm about the dangers of OnGuard, and the more likely that action will be taken. We need to turn investigative reporters onto this kind of thing, so they can expose the reality... "Sixty Minutes" perhaps??

Now, I'm off to read that thread you linked to.

Its sad all around, but Walmart hires guys who live hundreds and hundred of miles from a DC and expect them to commute for a full year before they transfer to a DC by their house. Even flying back and forth on a weekly basis will wear someone out. Maybe they should only hire within 100 miles of a DC to work at that certain DC. Why anyone would commute as far as some of these guys do is beyond me but to each his own. The guy in the wreck lived in GA and drove out of a DC in Delaware, thats nuts. The driver may have a fresh 14 when he logs on duty but what did he do to get to work? A plane flight, then drive from airport to DC. But Walmart doesnt care how or why he got there, just so he has his 14 hours available. This will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm sure there will be drive cams coming Walmarts way very shortly. Headquarters wants to stay far away from this, and the driver is going under the bus, no pun intended, hope it works out for him.
