I don't think the public has as much a problem with the quality of driving of the average truck as they do the sheer numbers of trucks today in unreal traffic densities. In many situations, if you're on the road, you are constantly in and out of tail-gate situations to no direct fault of your own in most cases ... a car moves in front of you and can't proceed ... he sees the truck as following too close, and dam if there's not trucks all around him and everywhere between home and work. Like we're only out here to piss off 4-wheelers with our massive numbers.
If they were to find store shelves only half stocked, and out of their favorite brand, many would have kittens and demand congress do something to look into the colluding of carriers to hurt the public by not working like we used to. Many Americans do not realize #1, how good they have it #2, what it takes to keep those shelves always fully stocked.

The reason why I read this story on THIS website: at least 85% of guys here have a clue about what they're talking about.
My initial reaction: I've been both a limo driver and a truck driver. I'm not a fan of Tracy Morgan. So I didn't think this was going to end well for either driver in "my" profession. (But it looks like the limo driver is not at fault. They HAVE been known to cut off big rigs though) Tracy Mogan couldn't pass a drug screen to be either a truck driver or a limo driver, but he was the richest guy there. The new America.
The public works project known as the NJTP will not be found at fault even though it's like having a million cars do 90mph though an off road construction site. That new roadway south of exit 8(?) sure looks nice. Hopefully they'll open it someday?
The issues mentioned by other drivers about the "safety" systems causing jack knifes? Yikes!
4 wheelers are surprised by our 70+ hour work week? Me two. If the feds are ever dumb enough to raise the minimum wage to $10.50 I'm parking. I might not have ANY burgers to flip at McDonalds but at least I'll get time and a half!
Free Legal advice of the day: Shut Up! It's what lawyers are for.
Those Sprinter Limos are actually pretty sweet, back when I drove we used modded Fords and they were much better (for a bunch of reasons) than the stretched Town Cars. But people liked the look of the stretches, so they were booked 10 to 1. People than knew better took the party buses.Toomanybikes and pattyj Thank this. -
isn't this ironic, I know one person on here who posts fake twitter pages will disagree... But its in lack and white...
An American Truck Driver
Now it's starting to make sense.
Walmart driver Kevin Roper is said to have "been awake more than 24 hours" in the crash that injured Tracy Morgan. This from th...e prosecutor, who refuses to release where he got that information. Roper denied the allegation on his twitter profile.
Here's where it gets interesting. According to this article:
"In 2003, New Jersey became the first state to make it a crime of vehicular homicide for causing a fatal accident while driving drowsy.
The statute, known as Maggies Law, made it illegal for a driver who had been AWAKE LONGER THAN 24 HOURS to operate a vehicle.
The law was named for 20-year-old Maggie McDonnell, who was killed in 1997 when a driver AWAKE LONGER THAN 24 HOURS crossed three lanes of traffic and hit her car head-on."
NOW WE UNDERSTAND WHY THE PROSECUTOR CLAIMS THE DRIVER WAS "AWAKE MORE THAN 24 HOURS." He needs it in order to make the charge stick.
Of course, the article makes no mention of the driver's denial of the accusation. It also purports misleading "facts" about truck crashes and injuries from them.
Don't forget to include a quote from a clueless bureaucrat:
"This is a major moment really to stop the trucking industry," Joan Claybrook, a former head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, told reporters in a conference call. "It seems no matter what we do in terms of pushing to get safer trucks on highways, the trucking industry uses its clout to either undo those improvements that we do get or stops any that we're trying to push."
Yes Joan, I'll use every means at my disposal to undo the damage you've done to my industry. I don't have to lie to make my point. You do.

I'm sure you guys heard it on the news, the guy who ran into the celebrity working for Walmart. I'm only in school now and just finished up my hours of service chapter so my question is how can he of ran for 24 hours without sleep? Does that mean that when he logged himself as in the sleeper berth or off duty he was actually driving? I would think walmart would of caught that quick with the Qualcomm
