New Boston doesn't do any road training, Gary handles students from IL,IN and MI for this part of the school. They will bus you from Memphis to Hammond,IN and put you up in a different hotel than the one the Gary terminal uses for orientation. If you ask nice they might be able to bring a fridge and microwave to you room if they have extra available and there is a free breakfast every morning so get downstairs a little early.

I though Chuck and Tom, the road instructors were great. They are very laid back and knowledgeable. They will have you guys drive to the dmv each morning to practice on the actual course for the state test (you might not need it but other students probably will be taking it). After that we mostly drove around on two lane roads in Indiana. There is a Pilot and a Walmart they will probably have you stop at each day so you can grab some food and do some shopping if you need it. They try and get students tested early if they are ready so there is a good chance you will have that Fri-Sun off, move hotels on Sunday to the one New Boston uses and then start your orientation there Monday.

Your hotel will be in Hammond. Its right next to Gary but a little more middle class. There are a few places you can go if you want to walk about 4 blocks, its really not that bad an area. If you want to head into Chicago you could even catch the South Shore Line for about $5 and it will take you all the way to Millennium Park. It's probably 5-6 blocks tops from the hotel. Only problem is it's quite likely it will be cold and windy that time of year but your from Michigan so you should be able to take it. Now the area around the terminal I would not suggest walking around.
