Thanks for all the good info. I am. Not sure about the lifting part of the test. 120 lbs may be tough for me right now as I am not in as good shape as I could be. I may have to simulate the lifting test here at home before committing to the orientation. The worst case would be I would go to Swift.

Don't sweat the dead lift. I don't have a whole lot of upper body strength myself. The 120lbs will be lifted mostly with your legs. It only has to come up to knuckle height. You will lift with your legs and keep your arms hanging straight down.

You are so right about there being a trick to lifting those tarps. I'm only 160 lbs and was able to put the tarp on my shoulder, climb the ladder and throw the tarp with little difficulty after I learns the tricks. One time a new young driver who was a big guy like over two hundred and tall ask me to help him. So I just threw the tarp on my shoulder climbed up the ladder and placed the tarp all the while he was just standing there all slacked jaw.
So to the new guys, don't be afraid of the lifting there are tricks to it and most of the time there is a crain.

Well, I have been waiting for a spot in orientation for ever it seems. I was approved on 12/05/12 had to move from Arkansas to Pa and so that delayed my going on the first of Jan. Now I have been ready to go since Jan 15. But still no slot. I hope tomorrow is better news. I may have to go on to Swift if I don't get a spot this week. Any one else had to wait so long to go to orientation??

I talked to them on Thursday and they are waiting for a employment verification to be faxed back. I decided to go with a local company instead. They're drivers average 3,000 miles a week and are home by friday. All routes are out and back. It's not flatbed work either, dry van hauling pet supplies throughout the country. The benefits are good and they give quarterly/ Christmas bonus.
