When I'm headed to a stop that I've had not been to before I use google maps earth sat view to see the location I heading to for my own personal comfort, not that I don't trust what the consignee says.

Update.
Hmmmm.... I cant seam to be able to keep this current. ::shrug:: eh, I guess now and then posts are better than none.
I have been running my butt off lately. Posted 2 weeks of 3500 miles, then followed with a marathon 4000 miles week! that was how January went. No real truck problems, just minor issues like an upper bunk window leaking in the heavy rains, and my ABS/TCS failing EVERY time it rains or gets cold..
Currently bouncing up and down the west coast, from SFS to Lakewood and back. Not as many miles, but I get to swing through home in Sacramento every few days.
Random thoughts.
I seam to have developed a phobia of my 5th wheel running dry. Bought a bottle of grease and now hit it with a dollop every time I drop/hook.
Drove myself nuts on ice one morning, the tractor wouldnt turn... wheels cranked hard over, back n forth, nothing worked. Finally dropped the trailer, and took a look at the 5th wheel. No lube.... aint gonna make that mistake again.
Truck stop showers ALWAYS seam to be lacking 1 of three thing. Hot water, Space, Amount of water. Finding a place that has plenty of all three, its like finding gold.
Bless my fridge....."good" food is almost impossible to find from the seat of a rig. "moderately edible, unidentifiable items of dubious nutritional value" get REALLY old after a while (and expensive). even it its just a bagel and cream cheese, the fridge keeps me fed cheaper and at least I know WHAT i am eating.
Not sure I like the upcoming changes to the fuel bonus. I have managed to get it every month so far, but not 100% sure I will with the new rules.
Side note, I have NEVER gotten the safety bonus, and not entirely sure why.
Just past the 6 month mark. I have decided to pull the trigger, and am actively hunting for a truck of my own to buy. Nope, I don't claim to be ready....... but then again, I think I could go another 20 years as a company driver, and still not be "ready". lol... But I know enough to be dangerous now....so Im looking for the next step. And yeah, I am planning to stick with W/S, just in my own truck. -
what are the upcoming changes to the fuel bonus?

I got an email about them attached to my paystub email. My dislike basically comes down to my truck has an APU, so they are restricting my particular truck a bit more than it already is on idle time. They keep sending me places where I HAVE to idle due to temps hovering under 10 degrees, and my APU wont function reliably in temps less than 15.
On a positive note, they are opening up our choices of places to fuel a bit more. -
i work at may now they charge us to idle.
i start orientation next Monday with you guys. -
I had a friend who worked for May for a few months. He had to take a few months off to deal with family issues, and Im trying to con him into joining us instead of going back. lol.
Well... that was fun... I am hiding in the back of a truck stop in Sacramento, and last night when walking up to get food (with my family), I walked into the end of an armed robbery. By that I mean I watched them bolt out of the building, and screech out of the parking lot.
::sigh:: yet another case showing why they need to hurry up with the laws allowing us to carry our chosen form of projectile launching personal protection. Yes, I know I could go through the process of filing in a bunch of states to get the right, but i hate paperwork. lol. -
I was in Dunnigan recently, the showers there are actually pretty nice. Whenever I'm in Albuquerque, I hit the middle casino on I-40 (forget the name, Dancing Eagle maybe) because they have showers for only $5, and they're great - clean, lots of space, and hi-flow showerheads. (They also have a trucker special in their restaurant, also for $5. Together, it's about the best $10 you can spend on the road.) In the East, I've noticed the Wilco/Hess showers tend to be nicer than other truckstops.

Can you expand on a couple of things because we don't get temps below 32F (0 C)
Does the APU power a Webasto type a/c heating unit for the sleeper or a bunk heater. Don't some like the Eberspacher have their own drive systems and just use the truck tank diesel
I can't remember reading what you are doing for sleeper heating.
When you have only a bunk heater, is there an ice build up on the cabin walls from the frozen condensation.Last edited: Feb 17, 2013

Depends on the bunk heater set up. The APU in this truck only runs when needed. So to provide heat, it is running a webasto type heater, then turns on and off as needed to keep the batteries from draining. When it is set to provide A/C, it runs as long as the A/C is on, because it is driving an A/C compressor.
Even in 10 below zero, with a wind chill down to -37, I have yet to see ice on the inside of the truck. If the weather is THAT cold, you should most likely be idling your truck, and not depending on the bunk heater. -
Ok... had my 1st experience being sick on the road... landed in phoenix at the end of a multi stop run and really didnt feel to good. Called dispatch and asked for the next day off.. They obliged, so I laid in my truck for several hours with frequent sprints to the bathroom. Finally gave up and found a local hotel. Ended up staying there for Friday and Saturday night. Being sick in a truck is NO fun!!!
Hmm.... Currently swinging through Sacramento to pick up my eagerly anticipated new prescription glasses. something about my other ones being older than my 14 year old son told me it would be a good idea...... And...I....can't....get...... used to these new ones..... My distance perception is WAY off, and they are making me dizzy.... :::sigh::: Going to have to get a ride to the doc to see whats going wrong. I sure as heck am not wearing these to drive a rig!
