I own a 1999 Mitsubishi Fuso FE639. Diesel 4-cyl turbo, hydraulic brakes, 10.900 gvwr, 2 axles, cab-over, 16ft box with lift gate. I bought it because I was planning on starting a delivery business but things fell through. I want to get my wifes furniture out of storage in Philly and we live in western NY. My current insurance provider won't cover it because they say it is considered a commercial vehicle. Insurance brokers say the same thing and say it has to have commercial insurance $600 down $168 per month, DOT registration $600 (which is through the roof). Questions: is there any way to make this work without spending a fortune?

It sounds like any other 1 ton truck I have owned and never insured one commercial. That said I wasn't doing hot shot work or anything just chasing parts for my trucks or hauling my horses etc. Pretty well the same scenario you are describing. Try state Farm or farm bureau

What state is it registered in? In pa they dont care about usage, just weight.
Your best bet would be to sell the truck (if you have no plans to move the business forward) and rent a uhaul
