Thanks to everyone who posted. The job that doesn't require experience is actually a railroad job working maintenance on signals and safety equipment. They require the CDL within 6 months of hire and provide a vehicle for testing. I do have experience driving heavy equipment like forklifts and buses but have no real world experience with a tractor trailer such as coupling and uncoupling a trailer.

Ask if they would allow you to drive the vehicle with a CDL operator if you had a CDL permit . There is no need to go to school for this job . Not only would you waste money on school , you would lose 4 to 6 weeks income when you could be working .
There schools don't qualify you to drive , only get a CDL . That's why carriers make school graduates go with a trainer .

Community Colleges offer weekend and evening classes and some are really cheap. That may be your best way to go. Get the job and then go to the CC during the night or weekend. I took a weekend class when I took schooling.

Community Colleges like CCC&TI where I trained at in Hudson, NC back in 1994 and to this day have you driving on back roads more than highways and when your not on the road your backing. I checked Alliance Truck Driving School out back then they wanted $2500 for the same class at CCC&TI that cost me $385 total. I also seen the difference in our backing and driving over many students that went there. Those are called mills for a reason and many get paid by the companies too.
