Plan things out ahead.
Buy quality tools and supplies.
For my Dodge I bought and used:
1). 10/2 ANCOR Duplex Wire.
2). 20A fuses (Blue Sea).
3). All ANCOR terminations (adhesive-lined).
4). Covered all with ANCOR flame-resistant split loom covering.
5). Supported the VERY carefully-run power leads to the cab with ANCOR zip-ties.
6). Installed a bulkhead connector for the power at the firewall (also USCG-approved vendor) to run into the cab.
I haven’t ever decided where I want the radio rig. So it’s incomplete.
Price the above. Nothing cheap about it. I want it to last. Be out of the way. Etc.
Next step for me will be a BLUE SEA or PAINLESS PERFORMANCE battery post distribution panel.
When it’s a tool for work, give it the quality the factory should have.
And, as time goes on (and your dedicated toolbox has more supplies) it won’t feel so dinged expensive.
Internet makes planning much easier. Plenty of reliable vendors (Waytek, West Marine, etc, for USCG). Save & refer. Build some lists.
In a sense the radio is the least important. Building an antenna and power system that’s HD, is where it’s at. Plug in anything afterwards.jdsilver7531 Thanks this.
