Sorry for the delay. Pay is based on experience and they just restructured the pay scale a bit so you would have to talk to a recruiter about that. Step deck/heavy haul pays a bit more than van. I know they were looking for step deck drivers for a dedicated account out of Olathe, KS that paid around $30/hr. We run all 48 but have home weekends available as well.

I wouldn’t want one in a day cab either.

Swift does not have driver facing cameras only outward but it does have event audio. They used to have driver facing cameras but stopped using them to lower their already high turnover.

It's always amusing to see people say, "I support outward facing cameras". But they leave off the important part: where the camera reports to.

Who doesn't like the idea of a camera to protect them from lawsuits? I'd put one on my car. But do you think I'd put on on my car if it was connected to the police station? Hell no. Likewise, I don't want an outward facing camera reporting to the trucking company.

I have little problem with an outward-facing camera that only reports to me, or only remembers the last, say, half-hour of driving, then deletes its record, having no internet connection at all.
This violates basic 5th Amendment rights against self-incrimination. A trucker must make hundreds, if not thousands of legal decisions every day. One wrong decision, and you're a criminal. What other line of work puts its employees in that kind of strain? Is this even reasonable, then, to pile on top of all that, a tattle machine that tends to ignore everything good that trucker does and only focuses on the bad? Often truckers get put in complicated no-win situations where they pretty much have to disobey some legal technicalities. This isn't a rare thing, but actually a constant part of the job.

Finally, you should be aware that an outward-facing camera can have its data confiscated by law enforcement, despite even being your personal property, as evidence. If the camera only shows evidence that works against you in court, where in fact, you'd be found not guilty if the whole picture was presented, then it sucks to be you. I had that happen, where I was fleeing a robbery attempt, and in the process of possibly saving my own life, the only thing that was transmitted to the company was the so-called "illegal" stuff I did to get away from the perpetrator. To this very day, they not only think I was just lying about the robbery attempt, but nobody has ever made the slightest effort to catch the would-be robbers—only me.
