Companies running CPM drivers to do local loads

If I had been on here during my ABF days, I would have been labeled a whiner. It was just so ####### hard to give up a lucrative job like that.

... But if you're at a dead end job and still won't take advice, you may as well just go work at a gas station.

 

Lets address your initial complaint.....

Those used to be called "shag" Moves or local truckload cartage moves....

KNOWING its taking you all day To get the work done (100 miles times what? 45 cents per mile equals $45 dollars)

Right away that should have made you question them about that- I surely wouldn't work like that-
$150 per day for anything 150 miles or less.

 

24 hours per day, 7 days per week, federal minimum wage is $7.25.

So one week of minimum wage would gross $1,218.

If you're not making that OTR, you're underpaid. This is your LIFE you're trading for money.

 

Lesson learned- And the megas will continue to do this until someone Stops them- When the megas exploded after the 70's when dereg opened up the floodgates- They Continue to this day- To get as much labor out of drivers as they "Legally" can......

Yes,There is no law in place to make sure mileage paid drivers get compensated for Local Moves,Shags,Hangin out at a shop- Playing with their safety morons at the terminal etc etc..

That all needs to be paid accordingly-

And you can blame a lot of this on drivers from that era......Too manmy drivers had the "Aw He11,I'll do it" for basically nothing, Just to make their dispatcher-owner happy, I remember.

A lot of coercion then- Much more than today- Moral here is this.......

When you allow people to get away with things... Thers no stopping them.
