I was told Maverick was one of the few companies to do a full background check before extending an invitation to orientation

I don't see a conspiracy angle at all in this issue. "Screwing up" a trucker does them no good at all if they paid for transportation and hotel to bring you to orientation. Bringing in recruits that are ultimately not qualified will cost them money. IMHO most of the recruits that were disqualified in my orientation that weren't issues with positive drug tests were problems with drivers not having all their documentation. Make sure you arrive to orientation with all required documentation and don't hide anything from your recruiter. If you have any potential issues that you think might disqualify you then it is your responsibility to make sure your recruiter is aware.
Those that were disqualified in orientation paid their own transportation to get home. It was mind boggling to see so many recruits show up and fail the drug test or not have all their documentation ready to go. Expensive lesson and a waste of time for those recruits.hardworkinman and FLATBED Thank this. -
I agree with what everyone has written above, Though once again this seems to be "Trucking Company" thing --in the real world everything possible would be checked before arriving to your place of employment --even a drug test.
Of course the OP wants to know of companies that check thoroughly first before hiring, and i cant help him with that -good luck. -

It is not just in the Trucking Industry that this happens... years ago I got into sales.. selling insurance.. the company flew recruits to orientation and training.. we were put up in a nice hotel for the month we were in orientation and training.. Just like in Trucking the first day was all the paperwork, same with the second.. then on to the training.. which was long and boring.. 9 hours of class and hours of homework for the evening.. and as we wre all going through it.. thy would come gt someone and they would be sent home for something that did not pass or clear in their background... and in about a month thy got a bill for the plane tickets, hotel and the portion of the class they completed.. if they did not pay it.. it was turned over to a collection agency...
The point is.. whatever company you go with is going to assign you a truck and trust you to transport customers product.. of course they are going to check you out... just be upfront and honest and you have nothing to worry about.. try to hide, cover up or be misleading on somthing it will evntually be discovered and you will get the boot...
The crazy thing is, some people get sent home for somethning that they tried to hide, and if they had been upfront it would not have been an issue... but, their hiding it made it a bigger issue...hardworkinman Thanks this. -
Thanks everybody for your replies. I have no intention of trying to hide this. I'm positive it shows up on my dmv record. The thing I'm most worried about is getting to orientation and them wanting more documentation about the suspension.i don't really have any and not sure i can get any since it was a year and a half ago.
Would swift or other companies tell me if they needed more documentation about the suspension before I went to orientation? Or would they send me home and expect me to get it and then come back? -
OTOH, if you show at orientation and fail the drug test or they catch you hiding something in your background, you'd better have a way home because they aren't paying for it. -
Did you have a CDL when you had a suspension? If not, you don't need to say anything. If you did have a CDL then you need to tell them now. They will find out, you should save yourself the time and expense of going to orientation only to be told you have no job.

I did have a CDL. I've had it for around 20 years. Even though I'm a newbie and need training. I definitely plan on telling them about the suspension. I pulled my DMV report and it's on there. I also got a copy of the background check swift did on me and it's on there too. So telling them about it is not the issue. It's weather they are going to want more supporting documentation or not. The description on the DMV report is vauge. It just says suspension for non payment of court ordered payment plan.
