For newbies they do check and use your non-CDL driving record.. so, if you had a suspension driving you personal car two years before going to CDL school you need to tell them and explain the circumstances.. pretty much all you need is the dates and out come.. for example if you got pulled over on Jan 5 of 2011 for failing to signal a turn, then didn't pay the fine and on Feb 10th of 2012 your license was suspended for failure to comply.. and on March 14, 2012 you paid a fin of $75 and a $95 reinstatement charge and got your license reinstated that is all you need.. the dates and explanation...
if you are worried about anything... just pay the $ and get a copy of your DMV record it is around $5 to $10.. then for added insurance you can pay and have a background check run on yourself and see if anything comes up.. then you will know exactly what info they will find out and address it well before going to orientation...
For what documentation to bring.. they should either tell you or usually they send you an email, also many companies have that information on their website...
But, truly, many of the sad stories you hear are not the big bad companies fault.. when I was going to orientation, they had a guy show up and all upset that he had been rejected and being sent home on his dime.. why.. because he did not have his social security card with him.. he had lost it.. all he had was an old pay stub with his social on it that he wantd them to use.. he knew he had lost it weeks ago and did not even go apply for a duplicat.. if he had he would of been fine, even if all he had was something from SS showing he had applied and was waiting for a duplicate... so, it was his fault...

I know the other day there was a maverick recruiter at our school and unless I misunderstood him he said that if they were 20 people in orientation that only about 3 of them would be hired so if that is the case if they know there not going to hire everyone or you fail there physical seems seems like they would pay your way back home

A driver should always have enough cash held back for an emergency bus ticket home. You just never know...

And a company should lay out in extreme detail "all details" no matter how small via e-mail or video what exactly will be required for employment, including such things such as 3 out of every 20 will be hired and 17 will be sent home "at their own expense -if that is their original plan.
And the company should also list in detail what pay and benefits you will receive and what you will be expected to pay for out of pocket.
Some of these companies do a pretty fair job of posting these things on their site and some fail miserably.
FYI: For instance, Although i know of the sleep apnea tests via this forum, and possible bills in the thousands should you be sent for a study and the machine --i have yet to see that posted on any trucking company site.
Keeping in mind a lot of potential drivers know nothing about such things and may not have the funds, nor be a position for those monies to be pulled from their check.
In other words it would fairly easy for a company to do thorough checks on potential drivers, and have full disclosure on their end also --but it seems a lot of companies chose not to. -
well maverick did tell me they check you out for sleep apnea and they pay for it and if u have it they will furnish you with the machine and u pay them back like 10 maybe 20 dollars a week from your check until it is paid for I should know around the end of jan or early feb if I will be invited to orientation at maverick if im invited I plan on asking a lot more questions then I already have
"Hang - Man" Thanks this.
