Over the last 14 years I have ran for quite a few companies. Lets say from my experience some were ok and some were not.
Currently
Walton Milk Haulers. out of Attica, NY/Alexander, NY(paper logs) 2011
Not cool! They sechedule you to run illegal, expect you to "creative log" and not get much sleep. There already have been 3 fatalities due to drivers falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing. And there are many many reports from drivers that they are caught between a rock and a hard place. If you run legal like I do, they "punish you" by keep you local and giving you "#### small time pay jobs"! If you run illegal for them they hook you up with lots of work, to the point that you will most defently die by hauling there milk products by shere exaustion.
105 hours in a week is NOT LEGAL! Running 3 days straight with only 4 hours of sleep is not legal! Its more than enough to run 14 hrs in a day and take your 10 off, why fudge it!
The head dispatcher and Owner, begs you and encourages you to fudge your books! Thats wrong in SOOOOO many ways!!
Shame on you Walton Milk Hauling!
Next Company
T.J. Marquart and Sons (paper logs)
out of Gainesville, NY2011
I did not drive for them, but I know all the drivers were made to "creative log"! And it was encouraged by the dispatchers to do soo!
if you did not, they would give you "#### runs"
Fmcsa step up and get in here! we need you to have our backs!
Werner Enterprises (Famous E-Logs)
worked for them 2010 to 2011
Yes they do have a glitch in the ELOG system.there are ways to fudge elogs, but why?
Usually as far as logging it is easy to elog. but you must remember your 11/14/70hour clock.
you can easily get busted if you do split breaks as the dispatchers there push you to do.
You also can get into trouble if you move your vechile and you haven't had that 10hrs and 15mins off. or if you just roll your truck from the dock to a "safe haven" to get some more sleep. There tracking is non-forgiving. My favorite thing to use is Personal Drive time. Its saved me many times over again!
Only ketch, Werner doesn't pay crap.but its not a bad start off company if you don't mind not going home and you have a decient Fleet manager. Pet and Passengers are allowed!
if you go here don't have high expectations of great wages and hometime!
Swift Transportation!(paper logs)
Remember this is from my experience.
worked for them back in 2007
Dedicated Driver hauling for Lowes and Sears.
This company gotthumps up for doing there best to run legal! Home time was good, was home every weekend. and made at the time .42 per mile. Not bad. They do not allow pets anymore.
which sucks. I only left there because they changed the terms of my employment to make me run OTR and not be home for aprox every 3weeks. and get a drop in pay! So before they changed the terms of service, it was a very good company, after IDK.
C.R.ENGLAND AND SONS (PAPER LOGS)
OUT OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH. 2004
THEY MAKE YOU FUDGE YOUR LOGS!
THEY RUN YOU SO MUCH YOU FALL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL CONSTANTLY! ITS DEATH WAITTING TO HAPPEN! AND THE WHOLE LEASE THING IS ######## DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU ARE A TEAM WITH A SPOUSE!
Companies that have Good and Bad reviews about running illegal and legal.

Hauling milk is at the bottom of the pay scale and if a man is to make any money hauling milk, he is going to run illegal. -
Why is that? Because the milk is subject to spoil?
-
First, you spend too much time unloading. Take some dairies, there may be some 40 trucks there in a day and you might sit for hours before you are ever unloaded and gone. This eats into your 14 real fast.
Appointments can be unrealistic. When you have an appointment time # 9am the next morning, some 900 miles , and your load isn't even ready until 2 or 3 pm the day before, there is no way that you can run it legal and make the appointment. Cows do not have clocks and they really couldn't care less about appointments
Running overweight is a norm too for milk haulers.
