    Hello,
I have a couple questions regarding becoming a truck driver fresh out of incarceration. I'm asking for my husband. I've been driving since January '19 (Family Dollar account for a few weeks, then switched to a US/Canada account) and I became a truck driver so that when my husband comes home we can team drive. Now that I'm actually in the industry it seems like it's not as easy for felons to get into this field as it seems from the outside. The school I went to wouldn't even be willing to train him until he passes his 5 year at home, conviction free mark. So my questions are
1.) My husband never got his Class E license, he went into prison at a very young age. How will this hinder the process of him getting his Class A? We are from Florida.
2.) Are there any GOOD companies that would be willing to hire us as a team? I'll be at my 1 year mark, 7 months OTR. He'll be brand new.

Thank you so much for input, it's very appreciated!!!

Western Express also but it kinda goes with what @Sprout was saying, I think the pay leaves a lot to be desired.

Hate to sound mean, but this industry is not for everyone. As the only jobs he will get are the ones that will exploit him, he's better off getting a factory or warehouse job.

@Sprout @ZVar In regards to pay and treatment that's definitely not what we want to hear but not all together unexpected...thank you guys for the responses we'll see what those companies are offering and look for the best option. If anything I can look for a dedicated route that'll have me home more :)

That's likely your best. Get your six month or one year in. Once you get that tons of doors for local companies that can get you home daily.
Heck, keep looking and put in apps even without the required experience. You never know when a company is in such a need of drivers they relax some of their requirements.

Check out some smaller Mom and Pop type outfits... The kind that have less than 100 trucks.

Ive got a less than stellar past myself, and I got an OTR job no questions asked...

"Fill that cup, theres your truck, here are your keys, can you take a load tomorrow?"

"Any paperwork I need to fill out first?"

"That stuff can wait, the load NEEDS to go!"

"Ok, sure. I'll be here when the sun comes up."

Granted I had been a free man for a few years and already had a CDL and some experience.

These companies hire ex-cons even if the website doesn't indicate it.
    Carolina Cargo
    Florida Beauty Express
    Covenant Transport
    Western Express
    Roadtex Transportation
There's more, so keep us posted.
Probably make the most money at Florida Beauty Express because they have multi-stop runs from Florida to California. Sometimes a triangle run; Miami to California to New York and back to Miami.
Florida Beauty Express may still have their policy of taking several days off between runs without fear of losing your job. Also you get paid extra for each stop on the route.
