If you don't put everything you worked, is that enough to not get hired?

There's jobs that I worked, but I don't actually remember when

If you kept all your W-2 forms, they will have the names of the companies that you worked for. If some or all of those companies are still around, they might have a record of your employment, with both starting and finishing dates.

Good luck to you. God bless you and your entire family!

Put together a work history with as much detail as possible. If necessary you might contact some of your previous employers to get the actual dates you were employed. If that isn't possible then do your best. Companies are required by law to validate a 10 year work history.

    Good luck to you.

Most companies are not going to go out of the way when they check your work history. If they see gaps in employment, or employers they can't easily verify, they may not hire you. You may have legit explanations or reasons for the gaps, but it doesn't matter. They won't hire you.

As time goes by, it will be just as difficult to be hired onto a trucking company, especially as a truck driver, as it is to get hired onto law enforcement, security, corrections, along with enlisting in the military.

There's a couple places I worked at that aren't in business anymore, so it's impossible to get that verified, and for the vast majority of jobs I worked, my former supervisors don't work there anymore either

If you have been out of work for more than 30 days, you won't be able to get hired as a truck driver.

But - they WILL hire a new immigrant who just got here from Russia, Nigeria, Indonesia, or wherever INSTEAD of you. That's they way it is in American in 2014. They won't verify his work history in Russia, or Indonesia, or wherever, they can't even do it accurately. But they will call him, hire him, and he will be making money soon, while you an American who was born here will be passed over and not hired simply because you were out of work for 30 days, or 6 months, or 2 years or whatever. It's they way it is now sadly.

That won't be a problem. When I hired on last year I had a couple of jobs with employers that were out of business. Simply fill out the work history to the best of your knowledge and let them do what they can for verification.

I also had a gap of over 2 months between jobs and that wasn't a problem getting hired either.

They are only required to validate 10 years of commercial driving history.

Many companies only ask for the last 3 years of job history other then commercial driving history.

    What?!?

    Are you kidding?

Look newbies it is simple, by law they are required to ask you about 10 years of your work history, not just driving history. The ten years is supposed to be filled out no matter what.

It isn't difficult, if you have gaps like many of us do, then you ask the company what they want you to do to document those gaps, I had a few years of them so I had to say what I did. I filled out one form for one company and the other I had a letter which explained what I did and gave general dates of unemployment which was notorized.

    Do they verify it?

I don't think anyone really does. I worked for a company where it took me a long time to get in, they didn't mess around and they did a full background check which only included calling two of the most recent companies to see if I worked there (they are only allowed to ask if you worked there and that's about it).

Many companies will ask you about where you worked, if they went out of business, don't worry about it.

If they ask for proof, go find another company to work for. I will never ever show my W2s, 1099s or tax info to prove I worked at a company because that is not proof.

SO keep it simple, make a list of places you worked, use months not exact dates and don't sweat it.
