My company says they are installing driver facing cams in all trucks starting February. I have been with these guys for 3 years more or less. They treat me good and we have steady work 24/7.
I'm currently on vacation until March, but I don't know if I can return to them. I worked for a company with driver cams before and I left within a week. Some guys have already left the company with the news.
Boss gave me an option of buying my own truck with them and he will give me access to the amazon load board direct. With these market conditions I don't know if I should go O/O.
I do have friends that are O/O with amazon direct and they can put me in their trucks and work for them but who knows.
What would you guys do?
Company installing driver cams. Now what?

Flat Earth Trucker, Soltaker, Magoo1968 and 5 others Thank this. -
They are not legal in Canada. You have a choice. Run for them and put up with it, or file with the federal labour board and be prepared to be let go once they get notified.

I would go back to work with the new camera, see how it changes your work environment.
I wouldn't buy a truck to keep a job?
Go work for a friend. Make sure you have guidelines on paper for all contingencies or you won't be friends much longer.
Being a business/truck owner is a different mindset from being a driver. Only buy a truck if that is what you want to do. Don't get forced into a purchase. Unless you have the operating cash in reserve, it might be a struggle waiting to receive the load pay.
Good luck.EvertonP, MACK E-6, Another Canadian driver and 3 others Thank this. -
Put a piece of tape on it. I did with a carrier I was leased onto 2 years ago. Their contract didn't state cameras were 'Driver Face camera' in the Agreement. Privacy in Canada superceded that. Driver-Facing Cameras: Canadian Court Rules Against Invasion of Privacy - TruckersReport.com

Did you read the part where the article said the ruling applied ONLY to one group of drivers at ONE company ?

That ruling was 12 years ago in Quebec. Many large Canadian companies use driver facing camera's now in order to receive better insurance rates.
