I'm a new comer to the industry with 1 year straight truck experience and a clean CVOR, drivers abstract and criminal record. I've found a company that wants to hire and train me to haul non hazmat tankers( the product is pitch). What if their insurance carrier won't insure me. Any comments. Can I self insure with a broker and split the difference with my employer until the his insurer is satisfied with my driving ability. Has anybody carried this kind of insurance, wouldn't it be similar to an owner operator except I operate and insure the vehicle and cargo and carry liability coverage and the company is the owner of the tractor and trailer. Sounds weird though doesn't it.

Get your proper experience first.......most tank companies want 5 yrs exp first, they do this for a reason.....learn to drive a unit the freight does not move around on, then go to tanks.

On the gasoline side I've never heard anything like that. When hauling gasoline I know the company or owner has to post a bond on top of the insurance. I heard it has gone from $1 million to $2 million. I can't tell you were it states that or where the requirement is but it makes sense. You just don't see many O/O hauling gasoline. And it's not because of the money because I know the loads pay well. I believe it's because of the cost of when things go wrong. You flip over and spill some of your load and you're looking at high dollars to clean it up.
