The ONLY company sponsored training worth doing is millis transfer or pay to go to a real school. Any other company training is a waste of time as the other companies suck

American Trucker said a couple weeks ago here that Watkins Shepard and Millis are two companies that nothing bad will ever be found on. I have taken that challenge and he is right. I could not find ANYTHING bad on either company. The only thing I can assume is they are really strict on who they hire or how many they hire. How else can a company remain so clean and free of complaints?

Even with 2-3 hours of searching on each company I came up with no real bad press on either carrier.

I'll tell ya the secret.......you ready?

    You sure?

They don't micro manage us, they give us a truck and tell us where to pickup and where to deliver everything else is up to us to do our way. They don't say don't idle or you can't have this in your truck. Both companies know and understand that drivers MAKE a trucking company and treat us as such.

Watkins is indeed one of the best; however, it is not for everyone. Once you complete with your 10-day orientation (trucker boot camp), off you go without a trainer. Again, great company, but meant for real truckers!

Not to say I don't believe that but they have to have other programs?! I mean I get a CDL (from a mill even) and go straight to WS for their bootcamp, I highly doubt they would turn me loose with road experience after 10 days of their training. That seems like a very costly mistake. Very few if any could handle that and nobody would really call that training. Yet they told me they hire student drivers. Certainly they would force some team driving or something right out the gate??

That program sounds awesome for someone who already has the experience, but not for a person who has only carried a CDL for 4 days. Sounds downright scary and dangerous for the road.

Aside from being financially raped would this scenario work?

I am broke been laid off for 6 months now. What if I go to one of these mills, sign their agreement and after I get my CDL in hand then apply at a great company such a Watkins Shepard or Millis? Of course I would have to pay several thousand for the CDL, but I could have the opportunity to go with a company I know is not going to shaft me the first year and be with a great starter company. A company I normally could not get to without the $4500 up front for schooling. Either way you cut it seems that these mills cheat people pretty badly, but this would be sorta like working them the same way they work people. I get what I want and move on to a better company to start with.

I don't think you can really lay it to them the way you are thinking. They will get their $7k from you, no way around that. But if you don't mind paying your way into the career like that... I just don't know if it would work? You would get your CDL that's for sure. If these two companies are only looking for a CDL then it might, if they can train you.

If you can drive they'll hire you and go solo, if you can't you go home period, no teaming no trainers no bs, either you can drive or you can't
