Idle air systems are still around in some form. You still need to idle the truck. if you get new trucks with APU installed the apu is about half price. I have checked on it . Then no idle.Apu uses alot less fuel it pays for it self.
some drivers stay out longer and run more loads. That means more money for all. Also truck companies can and do get a big discount on everything they buy. get a few more and we will knock more off for you.:biggrin_25520:

The guy is fairly new and probably it's his first job or two trucking. This is one of them things that companies doesn't disclose during the hiring process until a fuel manager comes in orientation if there's one. And I'm sure it's one of them things you won't voluntarily let the driver know. Why? Because it's a negative towards the company.

We're at a time where APU's are growing. In another five years most trucks will have APU's. Is it just coincidence the training/6 month companies don't have APU's and the 2 year experience required companies do? The difference is one company wants quality drivers and thrives on driver retention while the training/6 month required companies could care less, hire another one. No idle, No APU means more money in the stockholders pocket. They teach business in college. Not how to be a humanitarian.

I can appreciate that, the place I came from focused on positives and made it sound like everything was going to be great and everyone was going to bend over backwards to help you. So with that in mind, when I give my presentation at the company I'm with now I try to keep it real. I let them know that dispatch is going to imply that your HOS don't matter, and customer service simply doesn't care. Then I try to focus on solutions and consequences. I don't have to worry about idle because as far as I can tell all the trucks have APU's.

true, but at the same time i think its been fairly well proven that the company AND the driver benefits from having apu's...

ima be idling whenever i want until either they fire me or i quit, they can do this spend a dollar to save a dime all they want...its what trucking companies do.

I agree with all statments above, All companies should try to do the right thing by drivers and make the money they need. one hand washes the other.

Thats right. If you can afford race cars, you can afford APU's...
