This topic is why you must talk to current drivers at a company before deciding to work for them.

Drive to the company yard and start asking drivers questions. The majority of new drivers do nothing but read a web site and sign a contract. If you don't care about enough to ask questions take your abuse like the victim you've become.

Can not grasp an idea what is all the fuss about. Working = making money. Why go home if money is pouring in like crazy every day away from it? Should be happy and thank the company for keeping the rolling going, especially now days.

    Iceman1643 Thanks this.

Some people have families, friends, appointments, need time to unwind, etc. Some people have none of that.

That's not the point. There was an expectation set in good faith and Roehl acted in bad faith, I believe that is along the lines of the topic we are discussing in this thread.

I don't have someone at my house taking care of everything. I live alone so when I leave, the house is abandoned. I've come back to trees down in the yard, a back bedroom flooded due to a broken toilet water supply line, an infestation of roaches, cars that won't start, a lawn that's 2 feet high, etc. I got home this time to a water bill, late notice and disconnect notice in my mailbox all at the same time. I live in a very rural area, so they don't online billing. Still the old style postcard water bill. I can't pay it if I don't see it. I can't see if I never go home. I also have family and friends I like to see every now and then. There is life outside of making money, ya know. Life outside that 6 foot metal or fiberglass box. I don't hate driving, but I can't do it every day forever. I run out of food and clothing as I refuse to pay 6 dollars or more to wash clothes every few days. As it is I bring 23-24 full sets of clothes every time I leave the house and spend half a day doing laundry when I return.

That IS the point. If someone wanted to be home, they would by any means. I could of complained from home calling company explaining how horrible my truck life is while bbqing in the back yard. Who wants it, looks for a solution, who doesn't, looks for an excuse.

Same thing with getting home from the terminal, park it and go, tell it's my time, I'll be back when my time off is off. If load is taken while have to go do home time, why complain? Nobody forces nobody, it is usually agreed upon.

    Agreed.
Some drivers get crapped on, yelled at, threatened, and called names by the dispatcher and can’t figure out why. Here’s why: We teach people how to treat us. Don’t be nice. Nice people want you to like them. When someone craps on a nice guy, nice guy thinks if he is nicer, the person crapping on him will become nicer…so, basically nice guy rewards crappy behavior with good behavior. When you reward crappy behavior with good behavior, crappy behavior always gets worse. If you give a dog a reward for chewing on the furniture, do you think the dog is goingto stop chewing on the furniture?

Nice guy, stop being nice. Do not apologize for anything that you did not do wrong.

Ever see one of those drivers who get into yelling, screaming matches every time they have to talk to any office jockey? You can always tell. Everyone’s blood pressure is through the roof. A Hole truck driver. Everyone hates him. Cops give him every ticket they can ever stop. Every waitress spits in his food. Ralph Kramden reincarnated. Same problem. Says he doesn’t want to argue, BUT argues with everyone every hour of every day. Some dispatchers are this way too.

    Dispatch: Are you loaded yet?
AH Dispatch: Why are you still sitting there? You have an appointment tomorrow, have you been in the office. Get up and go inside and find out what’s going on! Do I have to do all the thinking for you?

Nice Guy to Dispatch: I don’t know. I’m not sure. Do you think I should go inside and ask?
Nice Guy to AH Dispatch: Sorry! I will go inside and talk to someone.

AH Driver to Dispatch: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! Of course I am not loaded! Is everyone stupid today?
(Of course we know that AH Driver and AH Dispatch are going to bang heads like big horn sheep. And there’s a good possibility that AH Driver has already pissed off everyone in the shipping office. And at the fuel desk. So, if you are not an AH Driver or a Nice Guy, how do you deal with the A Hole Dispatch?
